If you’re anything like us, you would have been served numerous adverts for Maelys Cosmetics in recent weeks or months. Caffeine also prevents excessive accumulation of fat in cells. According to a publication in the journal Skin Pharmacology and Physiology, caffeine stimulates the degradation of fats during lipolysis through inhibition of the phosphodiesterase activity. As a natural stimulant, caffeine causes vasoconstriction (constriction of the blood vessels) and stimulates blood flow when applied to the skin. Your dermatologist can prescribe high-strength tretinoin (which works faster but with more irritation), or you can go with adapalene (pictured here), a gentler over-the-counter retinoid that’s equally effective. Just remember to start slow: I layered it under moisturizer two nights a week for two weeks, then worked my way up to every other night.
When applied to the skin on our underarms, it feels hot but not uncomfortable.
