About this deal

He recalled how he came up with the idea of Vetman when he was just 10 years old, and said: “This is Vetman and all of the animals that he has saved by developing bionic solutions for them. He came into my mind when I was 10 years of age because I didn't feel clever enough - I didn't feel good enough.

Then, around 200 years ago, medicine began to split off — so that to test the efficacy of drugs for the treatment of human illness and injury, physicians began introducing disease into otherwise healthy animals. In 2010 BBC One started a documentary called The Bionic Vet focussing on Noel and his team's work which showcased new techniques to help pets with health issues. This moved onto Channel 4 with a new name in 2014 where 16 series of Supervet have been made.

I thought about how love is in the stars, and from that love Vetman was born in my imagination. He’ll fly around the world and save all of the animals, and ultimately save humanity from ourselves.”

The small acts of kindness that stood out during one of Dublin's bleakest nights

I’m not into facade. I wanted to show an honest expression of sadness. We live in a world of half-truths. And I empathise with sentient beings.” Despite the fact he is usually in charge of the animals in his line of work, the 54-year-old revealed in a recent interview with Waitrose magazine that his Maine coon cats - Ricochet and Excalibur - sometimes get the upper hand. When asked if he preferred to get up early or lie in, he said he doesn't always have a choice. Despite his healthy lifestyle and diet (Noel does not eat meat) he said he "can't cook" due to being so busy with his veterinary work since university. He added: "I understand that someone will spend three minutes lovingly crafting a dish, but I don't have five minutes, let alone three hours." He says he felt his dog’s presence at that moment — “I surrendered once again to her love and let her in” — and that’s when he got the idea for the book. Crikey. I wonder if he is okay. If he’s had bereavement counselling?

He attaches significance to the dog finding this candle, given its origin, and buried it with her. He says we all come from stardust, and that’s where his dog would return.Famous for working 18-hour days and sleeping at his Surrey clinic after working all night on emergency cases, he insists he’s never done a day’s work in his life, and that his work is a blessing. Noel opened up about how he was bullied at school, and how the idea of Vetman got him through the tough times in his life, from exams at school, to building his career. He also said he enjoys running between midnight and 2am with the quiet surroundings meaning he feels like it is “just you and the universe.” He does have some time for downtime though saying he enjoys watching the hit TV show Succession and was the “only thing” he watched this year. Noel also revealed how he was able to get the time to write his new book Beyond Supervet despite his busy job, revealing a flat out schedule. After finishing a day at work he would write from 10m all the way through the night until 5.30am, only sleeping between 6am and 10am.
