About this deal

Though the London A-Z itself is a triumph of detail and practicality, its inventor’s reputation as an artist and an eccentric has persisted. Accompanied by guided walking instructions and written by a local expert, A-Z Liverpool Hidden Walks is the perfect way to explore the city in a new light. Pancras International Station, Old Street, Tower Bridge, Bricklayer's Arms Junction, Vauxhall Bridge, South Kensington, Paddington Station and Lord's Cricket Ground.

In addition to 39 pages of maps, this handy atlas also features 55 pages of interesting and useful tourist information for central and outer London. Geographers’ Map Company was founded in 1936 by Phyllis Pearsall MBE (1906-1996) who, encouraged by her father Alexander Gross, took on the ambitious task of publishing up-to-date street mapping of London. They produced three special maps detailing transport information on getting to the venues and also provided information on events related to the 2012 Cultural Olympiad.

Indexes for streets, selected flats, walkways and places of interest, place, area and junction names. It’s not a book you can read from cover to cover and critique the words so I started by looking at the pull-out sheet map stuck in the back: Pictorial Map of London. In one scheme, the letters JIHGFEDCBA represent the digits 1 to 9 and 0, so that HFD would be 357, indicating a publication date of March 1957.

The index to streets section includes a list of the London County Council street name changes relevant at that time. The map installs completely on the device so that it is available instantly anywhere and with no internet connection. The Underground Railways map is not the standard Harry Beck-designed London Underground map we all know. Covering an extensive area, including Bristol, Swindon, Reading, Slough, Guildford, Littlehampton, Portsmouth, Isle of Wight, Bournemouth, Cardiff, Newport, Weymouth, Sidmouth, Taunton and Weston-Super-Mare.The Geographers' A–Z Street Atlas, commonly shortened to A–Z (pronounced "Ay to Zed"), is a title given to any one of a range of atlases of streets in the United Kingdom produced by Geographers' A–Z Map Company Limited. The index section of this atlas lists streets, selected flats, walkways, hotels and places of interest, cinemas, theatres, junction, place and area names. Might that be because her personality chimes so well with London’s own winding and unpredictable streets? Covering an area extending from the centre of London to: Brent Cross, Golders Green, Highgate, Finsbury Park, Stoke Newington, Leytonstone, Wanstead, West Ham, Thames Flood Barrier, Eltham, Grove Park, Catford, Streatham, Wimbledon, Barnes Bridge, Willesden Junction, Neasden.
