About this deal

There’s a set of grilles along the bottom of the P20 Pro, situated either side of the USB-C slot that conceals one of two speakers and the microphone. Similarly to HTC’s Hi-Fi BoomSound arrangement, this downward-facing speaker handles most of the heavy lifting when you’re enjoying media. Collectively the Pro’s audio capabilities are respectable; with clean, clear, powerful sound (for a smartphone) that only breaks down at the upper limits of its range. Noticeably absent is a 3.5mm headphone port – something to bear in mind if you’re not a fan of dongles (Huawei throws one in-box) or Bluetooth headphones.

Other parts of the phone are a little more conventional. We get the Kirin 970 CPU used in the Huawei Mate 10, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Note that the Mate 20 Pro has since appeared boasting the Kirin 980 CPU. It charges fast too. The supplied fast charger takes 1 hour 24 minutes to get the Huawei P20 Pro from completely flat to 100%. It takes 45 minutes to get from 0% to 80%. It merges a barrage of images over 3-6 seconds. Previous Huawei phones had a similar mode, but this one is designed to be used handheld, which is an amazing feat of AI image processing. And it works. It's little wonder the Samsung Galaxy S10 range has proved so popular since its release in spring 2019. Comprising three models, the Galaxy S10 range boasts a hole-punch display, powerful hardware, and some outstandingly versatile camera tech.

The Huawei P20 Pro price has jumped since its launch in April 2018, with the handset now available for around a third the price it initially launched for, if you buy it SIM-free. Like most other high-end Huawei phones, the P20 Pro does not have the highest display resolution in its class. This is a 1080 x 2244 AMOLED screen. Huawei loves smart camera processing, and this has also resulted in something called AIS. This is Huawei's software version of optical image stabilization (OIS), using smarts to get rid of the need for mechanical stabilization. The numbers sound unusual, but this is really just a Full HD screen stretched out to an 18.7:9 aspect ratio. That's right, it's even 'wider' (or longer) than most other 18:9 screen phones. Overall, build quality feels on a par with the P20 Pro, which is to say Huawei has clearly worked hard to ensure a high standard of fit and finish across every element of the P20’s form. Its glass and metal body is also equipped with IP53 certification, so while it isn’t technically as hardy against dust and water ingress as the Samsung Galaxy S9 or its bigger sibling, the P20 Pro, it can withstand the elements to a point.

Try going to Settings > Display and changing Screen resolution from FHD+ to HD+ to see if that makes any difference.

Apple’s current iPhones both streets ahead on this front, allowing owners to shoot 4K at a smooth 60fps fully stabilised. Huawei P20 Pro review: Verdict There's one missing piece of the jigsaw though: the Huawei P20 Pro doesn't support wireless charging. Huawei P20 Pro's retail price in Pakistan is Rs. 99,999. Official dealers and warranty providers regulate the retail price of Huawei mobile products in official warranty. Quite a few people have found that the fingerprint sensor on their P20 Pro has stopped working. We’ve seen threads about the issue on the XDA Developer forum and Reddit, among other places. For most people, it seems to be unresponsive, but others have also noted the sensor heating up and the fingerprint sensor options in the Settings menu becoming inaccessible. Huawei announces plans for global EMUI 10.1 rollout". Android Police. 2020-06-18 . Retrieved 2020-07-21.

You can switch it off entirely, though, which might be an idea if you end up with fields that look as though they've been laced with neon. However, you're actually better off going with the way Huawei intends you to use the P20 Pro's camera, shooting 10MP shots and using the zoom. Despite having lower resolution, the 3x zoom camera can take some great pics and renders more detail than a crop of the RAW or 40MP JPEG files can provide. At 1080p, though, the software stabilization is extremely effective. You can run along the road with the Huawei P20 Pro in your hands and the footage will still look pretty smooth. The camera isn’t entirely perfect. however. Finer details are frequently lost due to the phone’s tendency to overprocess images in a bid to reduce visual noise. The Pro does also struggle in some instances with automatic exposure levels. Photographs are often slightly underexposed in the phone’s default auto shooting mode but in these cases it’s relatively easy to compensate using the on-screen exposure compensation tool.
