I)f one is going to sneer at over-the-top displays of patriotism or hero-worship, one had better avoid over-the-top displays altogether. Your writing is truly outstanding, but so so haunting, I have never had a book stir up every emotion possible within me, as well as making me question my own thoughts and ideas on loss, mental health and post traumatic stress.

Though all these skills are ones we have seen brought to life in other works of Fantasy, the author manages to put her own twist on them seemingly making them unique to this story. The narrative changes, she changes, as this process unfolds, as she evolves from what others tell her she is, to who she really is… and who she wants to be. Really thought The other Hand was a wonderful book and as a second I thouht Incendiary was an inspired story. Córdova builds up action in subtle moments in the background, but her focus is always on our complex and intriguing heroine, who I am excited to see grow even more in the sequel. When Dez, her commander and the man she loves, is captured by the enemy, Ren sees an opportunity to not only get revenge but to prove her loyalty and end the war for good too.

Mr Cleave has also managed two particular, and rather old-fashioned literary achievements: a distinctive narrative voice and a captivating heroine.

I’m hoping that the people who listened will be inspired to read about May Day and the girl and her boy.

It's hard to put it exactly but as I was reading the "unraveling of London" as based on NYC part, it kept feeling like the lady in The Help who really, really wanted you to see how wrong everyone else was by exaggerating everything. The narrator is an obsessive---the kind who alphabetizes everything in her kitchen cupboards and freezer.

It's lyrical and magical, with gorgeous word choices but without losing focus, as flowery prose can do if used by the wrong hands. But Dez’s capture splinters the group, sending Ren on a solo undertaking that allows readers to really get to know the character. Incendiary isn't as ludicrous a performance as Olivia Joules -- it actually aspires to satire, whereas Ms. Other powers in this world include the power to create illusions and the power to draw feelings out of people. I only came across your name and work very recently (shameful really, but on the other hand, I now have a lovely stash of your books I can look forward to reading).
