Late that evening in Gethsemane, Jesus was betrayed with a kiss by Judas Iscariot and arrested by the Sanhedrin. He was taken to the home of Caiaphas, the High Priest, where the whole council had gathered to begin making their case against Jesus. Later that afternoon, Jesus left the city and went with his disciples to the Mount of Olives, which sits due east of the Temple and overlooks Jerusalem. Here Jesus gave the Olivet Discourse, an elaborate prophecy about the destruction of Jerusalem and the end of the age. He speaks, as usual, in parables, using symbolic language about the end times events, including His Second Coming and the final judgment. Favourite activity? I have three dogs – a labrador called Fred, a dachshund called Fritz, and a West Highland called Fergus – and they need exercise. We have a very large 70-acre garden, which is open to the public, where 80 species of birds have been recorded. So I’ll often take the dogs out for a walk in my garden, using my golf buggy, and then do some gardening and listen to the bullfinches.

Jesus spoke seven final statements from the cross. His first words were, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." (Luke 23:34, NIV). His last wordswere, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit." (Luke 23:46, NIV) After Jesus had said this, he went on ahead. He was going up to Jerusalem. He approached Bethphage and Bethany. The hill there was called the Mount of Olives. Jesus sent out two of his disciples. He said to them, “Go to the village ahead of you. As soon as you get there, you will find a donkey’s colt tied up. No one has ever ridden it. Untie it and bring it here. Someone may ask you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ If so, say, ‘The Lord needs it.'” Those who were sent ahead went and found the young donkey. It was there just as Jesus had told them. They were untying the colt when its owners came. The owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?” They replied, “The Lord needs it.” Then the disciples brought the colt to Jesus. They threw their coats on the young donkey and put Jesus on it. As he went along, people spread their coats on the road. Jesus came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives. There the whole crowd of disciples began to praise God with joy. In loud voices they praised him for all the miracles they had seen. They shouted, “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!” (Psalm 118:26) “May there be peace and glory in the highest heaven!” Some of the Pharisees in the crowd spoke to Jesus. “Teacher,” they said, “tell your disciples to stop!”“I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.” By 6 p.m. Friday evening, Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimatheatook Jesus' body down from the cross and lay it in a tomb. A few minutes before the church services started, the townspeople were sitting in their pews and talking. Suddenly, Satan appeared at the front of the church. Everyone started screaming and running for the front entrance, trampling each other in a frantic effort to get away from evil incarnate. Soon everyone had exited the church except for one elderly gentleman who sat calmly in his pew without moving, seeming oblivious to the fact that God's ultimate enemy was in his presence. So Satan walked up to the old man and said, “Don't you know who I am?” A song by Audio Adrenaline expounds on the inspiring idea Jesus shares in the parable of the lost sheep. At the Baptist church the squirrels had taken an interest in the baptistery. The deacons met and decided to put a water-slide on the baptistery and let the squirrels drown themselves. The squirrels liked the slide and unfortunately, knew instinctively how to swim, so twice as many squirrels showed up the following week. A young boy's experience reminds us that others can see God in us and that we should seek to see God in others.In times of discouragement, it can seem like God doesn't know what He's doing. However, the real question is whether we know what we're doing.

On Resurrection Sunday, or Easter, we reach the culmination of Holy Week. The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the most important event of the Christian faith. The very foundation of all Christian doctrine hinges on the truth of this account.
