Fully mesh made me a little nervous at first, as I wondered if it would be strong enough or prone to snagging, but after four months of regular use, I’ve found that my worries were unwarranted. In the reclined position, the decreased tension on those straps makes it more comfortable to rest the arms upon them. And, although its legs aren’t as wide (or deep) in the fore-aft orientation, the back feet have caps with larger flattened surfaces that provide added stability. These lightweight camping essentials are perfect for avid adventurers seeking a reliable seating solution on the go.

First is the fact that two back legs are riveted in place, meaning that they don’t detach like all the others. The chair has been used during weekend camping trips, day trips to the beach, at several backyard cookouts, and pulled out of the trunk at the trailhead when I’m back at the car after a strenuous hike (I love sitting it in to take my sweaty boots off and enjoy a moment of rest before getting back in the car). The Helinox Chair One is also pretty comfy and comparable to the Big Agnes, but it’s heavier and much bulkier.

I think NEMO takes a swing at all the major categories with the Moonlite and for the most part, hits on just about all accounts. Each of the chairs in this review has some excellent qualities, and they all provide a decent spot to rest one’s weary bones after a long day in the saddle. I’ll be interested to see how it goes when I introduce it to the rocky hillsides and long sits of an autumn hunting season. My ideal hair is a ground chair frame (the low height and lack of legs would allow it to be used with a tent's awning) with a chair zero cover (as it's half the weight of the cover of the chair one/ground chair). While it’s generally safe, as the ground is not far from the seat, a few camping cocktails could make things interesting.These bends do two things: broaden the base at the point of ground contact, which increases stability, and allow for a wider seat. LIGHTWEIGHT AND COMPACT - This chair from OEX is incredibly lightweight and super compact and makes an excellent addition to your expedition pack. Alternatively, one could place the chair legs on rocks or bits of bark to help disperse weight and prevent sinking. In fact, our friend TJ bought one after trying out our demo model; TJ is a large fellow at 6’5″ tall and 250 pounds.

In terms of comfort, the biggest advantage of the Skyline UL is that its seat is more elevated than those of the other chairs, which makes getting into and out of the chair a lot easier. I would say if you have never used the helinox one chair you will be impressed with this incarnation, if you have, may be not so much. This construction technique creates a fairly shallow (forward to back) bucket, not unlike that of the Chair Zero. Its small-diameter poles make one question its strength, but we’ve had no problems with bending or breaks. Our comparably heavy friend TJ, as mentioned, also put many evenings on his Chair Zero with no issues before he upgraded to the Moonlite—strictly for comfort.Another plus in terms of comfort is that the height of the chair’s sides is low enough that the arms are in no way confined but can rest comfortably on top of them. It’s also stable enough for my much larger frame to sit, but I haven’t sat continuously for more than a couple hours at a time.

The seating available on the stool is adequate and robust and there is some cushioning where the seat connects to the legs support to cushion your bottom. The feet are also easy to wipe off and don’t cake in the soil, so that makes packing it back up quicker and cleaner. The compact packaway size of both the stool and chair make it effortless to carry them from one camping spot to another, taking up very little space in your rucksack. The angles of the base poles create a more upright sitting position than that of the Monarch or REI’s Flexlite Air, and the relatively taut ripstop polyester fabric cradles the back versus stretching like nylon.
