Steve and Lynnette fought for two inquiries which uncovered a litany of failures by police, social services and mental health teams. “We were promised lessons had been learned, and action would be taken to prevent the same mistakes happening again,” says Lynnette. “We were told we’d be involved in police training – we did one session and never heard from or saw a soul since.” I am not just saying that, I truly believe it. Once you read this book, I am convinced that you will agree with my assessment. The fact that Georgia's father was a police detective makes this all the more poignant and inexcusable. To lie, deceive and place the blame on everyone but themselves. This naturally just made them look even worse. This was a case that took over the British headlines at the time due to its detail and severity and the fact that even when your father is a high-ranking member of the police force, and you are murdered, his employers are not immune or averse to lying to you, either. Reynolds got a whole-life sentence, meaning he will die behind bars, with the judge remarking he was a “serial killer in the making”. It emerged officers were given evidence of his obsession with images of women being hanged – but let him off with a warning.

Our Georgia, by Lynnette Williams with Robin Eveleigh, is a book powerful about a murder and the devastation it caused a family, as well as a call to action for police reform, both at their local department and in general. That said, there are things about the writing and analysis that kept it from being as good as it could have been for me. If the police had done their jobs in the days, weeks, months, and years leading up to the night Georgia was murdered, it is an almost certitude that she would be alive today. Some memoirs about dead or missing loved ones tend to gloss over the details and make their child, friend, neighbor, or other family member sound like a saint. Not this book. While Georgia is described as a loving and trusting person, she's also made to seem like a real human being (which she was), flaws and all, making what happened to her hurt even more. Another drag for me was the constant rehashing of how the courts, police, probation, therapists, etc failed them. The first mention was enough, then there was the report itself, then a constant rehashing of how they failed to keep Georgia safe.

Our Georgia by Robin Eveleigh & Lynette Williams is a true crime book that tells the story of Georgia Williams, a young woman from Wellington, Shropshire, who was brutally murdered by a friend in 2013. The book provides an in-depth look into Georgia's life before her tragic death and the events that led up to her murder. The couple now split their time between a new home in Market Drayton and Spain. “Telford’s full of painful memories,” she says. As we read the book, we discovered the friend was in love with her and she kept rejecting him as she nicely told him repeatedly she wasn't interested in him. He could not and would not leave her alone and disguised a way for her to be his. After that event, we come to learn what the police knew from various locations, parents, or others. Only to soon to realize that people didn't do their jobs correctly and this death as well as others could have been prevented. Overall, this book is very emotionally charged (as well it should be) and written from the family's perspective on how devastating a murder is to those who remain.

Having Georgia's mother as the author, imbues this book with a special gravitas. Those of us who are mothers and fathers can only imagine how devastating losing a child is, and losing a child to murder is unimaginable. To have that loss compounded by the realization that her death could have, and should have, been avoided.I appreciated the authors insights into what she was feeling, how her family was handling things, etc. Looks at aspects of life during the time of Plautus and Terence to examine the housing marriage children slaves finances religion and general life Social and Private Life at Rome in the Time of Plautus and Terence by Georgia Williams Leffingwell – eBook Details I even imagined him maybe getting married and starting a family of his own – it was torture he’d deprived Georgia of all those milestones.” The only part I didn't like was the way that the mother thought that the killer did everything to spite her. I understand about the cell phone, but the court proceedings or the appeal was NOT to spite her and her family. Or to even extend their pain, it was the killers selfish reasons to exploit the court system.

Through Steve's inside knowledge of the police, the couple was able to uncover the multitude of failures that allowed Reynolds to infiltrate the life of their daughter and kill her.West Mercia Police claimed there was “no causal link” between its officers’ actions in dealing with Reynolds in 2008 and Georgia’s murder five years later.

That spirit was snuffed out when 17-year-old Georgia was lured to the home of college pal Jamie Reynolds on May 26, 2013, on the pretence of helping with a photoshoot of a fake hanging. Instead the scenario was horrifyingly real. Two years later when he rammed a colleague’s car after she spurned his advances, police wrote it up as a traffic accident. To have them turn around and say, ‘We didn’t do enough to protect your daughter’ totally vindicated what we’d been saying,” says Lynnette. Reynolds – then 23 and one of Georgia’s wide circle of friends – lived a short walk away. He had begged her for help realising his dream of becoming a photographer, but the ruse was part of a murder that had been years in the making. At the time of Georgia’s disappearance, Steve was – ironically – a highly-commended murder squad detective serving with West Mercia Police. In this powerful moving memoir Lynnette and Steve expose the many failures that let Reynolds infiltrate their daughter's life and allowed him to kill. I like giving out the money,” Lynnette says. “It’s like Georgia handing it out, saying, ‘Enjoy yourself, do well’.” The way Reynolds killed her was awful enough, but the way he treated her afterwards was utterly callous. To be found naked, with police poring all over you – it was so degrading for her. If it’s possible, I hate Reynolds all the more for that. At first, I thought the book was just a typical true crime story, but as I got further into it, I found myself getting more and more emotionally invested in Georgia's story. However, it was easy to forget that it was a true story as I found myself being swept away by the amazing life she led up until that fateful day. The authors do an excellent job of portraying Georgia as a real person with hopes, dreams, and a bright future ahead of her. It is truly heartbreaking to think about what she went through and what her family must have endured. The 67-year-old added: “They say time heals, but it doesn’t. You just get used to living with the pain.
