About this deal

If there are 2 of us, and a cooked breakfast is involved, as well as a proper evening meal, I will take 1/2 a litre of fuel. If you have a pot that is less than 10cm in diameter, it will not fit on the pot stands. This is a real problem for most titanium mugs that are popular as pots. Mine falls though.

Tried it outside for the first time. There was not much wind, plus my balcony floor is pretty well protected. The flames could get high enough to burn my hand (did a bit) when i used the removable handle for my saucepan. They were really unpredictable (from one side to the other) which made it dangerous. I don't put more then 2/3 of methylated spirits. Tested it 3 times all ready without the expected results. Trangia is a Swedish company who have constantly re-developed, updated and improved their Trangia stove design, using their prolific experience to become the natural choice for outdoor people. If you fill the burner to 2/3 full, it holds about 100ml. This is enough to burn for around 20 minutes and it will boil a litre of water in around 10 minutes. So about 2 litres of boiling water for every fill. this varies hugely with ambient temperature and water temperature. Buy 2, or combine it with another type of stove and you have a setup that will cook the finest of meals.Petrol stoves can flare quite high at startup, so aren't good for use inside a tent, and often don't simmer well as the burner has to be kept hot enough to vaporise the fuel before it gets to the jet. Your mileage will vary, but in the real world, that’s how it works for me. What fuel does a Trangia use Assembling the Trangia Triangle is straightforward (you get a pictorial guide to show you how). You simply fit the tags through the slots in the sheets to form a triangle (hence the name…), then push fit the burner support ring into the slots in the middle of each sheet. Once assembled, the resulting tensioned unit is surprisingly stable and robust, belying the apparent flimsiness of its components. Once you insert the standard Trangia meths or Trangia gas burner (not the Swedish Military burner which is too big) you have a combined burner stand and windshield stove unit that will safely and securely hold pans, mess tins or kettles with bases over 10cm in diameter. My next stove of which perhaps I will get next month will be a Stainless 'Wild Woodgas' stove so in terms of fuel I can use contained woody material to create flammable gas as fuel or I could use my Trangia meths burner in it, as my outdoor cooking needs have changed. The wind is the enemy of such alcohol burners. You need to use a wind screen that wraps around the burner and the pot. That way you ensure that the flame is centered at the bottom of the pot. Another detail is that, depending on the environment temperature, once the alcohol is boiling inside the burner, the simmer ring is not airtight, therefore, the alcohol vapor will escape by any path and will continue to burn around the burner uncontrollably. Under these conditions, it is advisable to add a little water (a teaspoon or less) to the alcohol in the burner to waste energy producing water vapor that is not combustible and reduce the amount of alcohol vapor by cooling it a little. A ratio of 85% alcohol in water will work (try your own). As is well known, water is corrosive. It is advisable to dry the burner well when not in use.

The thinness of the steel made everything feel “sharp”, but all the corners are rounded for safety, making the unit unlikely to actually damage you or your gear in use.Although it will run on car petrol, the additives in the fuel don't always burn off properly in the low-ish temperatures of a camping stove, leading to clogging up and consequent strip down & cleaning. Some of the constituents of car petrol aren't terribly healthy either (look up benzene, for example), and petrol stations often don't like you just buying a bottle full (min sale is usually 2 litres). It's better to use an additive free fuel such as Coleman fuel or Primus Powerfuel if possible (cheaper alternatives such as Aspen 4 or panel wipe do exist, but not so that you would find them during a trip). If I go on an overnight camp using dried food and have 3 cups of tea, I take 100ml in the burner and a 250ml bottle of spare fuel. I never run out, but I use nearly all of it in the bottle and come home with the burner full. I would regard this as an essential addition in all but the lightest breezes in the summer. I use a foldable foil one, that weighs next to nothing. The Triangle was not available, but now, in 2022, it has become available again in a slightly different design. It looks a bit better, but there was never a problem with the older one. It is rumoured that they discontinued it because of a patent or some such infringement. The 3 pieces of stainless clip together and the steel insert for the burner just pushes in to place. It’s so simple, but is a little fiddly until you get used to it. Then drop the burner in to place in the central hole. Having removed the lid and not quite filled it with meths beforehand.

You can buy a Trangia fuel bottle which is the safest and leak free way to transport fuel. For a long trip, I will do this. A few years later I had discovered Trangia had done just that, to create 'add ons' that would enable the design classic that is the faithful Trangia to run on other fuels including gas, so if I want to revisit that past idea again, it will at least be easier this time around, but just to alert you to the fact these days they don't just run on meths.Trangia says it is fine to burn ethanol above 70%, but it will be sooty. Buying a Trangia Triangle – beware To extinguish the stove, put the closed simmer ring over the flame. NEVER blow it out. It doesn’t work and you will end up with flaming meths everywhere. Don’t use the lid or the o ring will melt. Methylated spirit (meths). I do not recommend using anything else. Meths is readily available and cheap. It works the best and is safe. You can buy it in 5 litre containers which makes it really cheap.

Use the simmer ring to control the heat. If you combine this control with adding or removing a wind shield, you can achieve remarkable control over temperature. This little stove is a joy to cook on, as you can simmer really easily. Welcome to CCS! I can tell you what I "think" your problem might be: You're not using a windscreen with your setup! When I got mine, a gift from a good friend in New Zealand, it came with a light windscreen that wrapped around the stove stand. Works perfectly, and I've used mine with the Trangia simmering ring almost closed all the way, too!! Give this link a squint, and see if you understand what I mean: With a little experience and practice, these simple stoves are fail-safe and highly effective (and according to some steampunk lovers, boring )

Using a flint and steel it is easy to light, and I've found a good puff will blow it out (although this isn't approved by Trangia). Failing that and inverted mug will starve the flame of Oxygen. So, the flames were to high for me to use the cap to put it out and I couldn't move my saucepan. I had to let it burn to the end each time. Maybe there's a problem with my setup / burner or I am doing something wrong hopefully.
