About this deal
The colander spins so smoothly that moisture flies from the salad, causing no damage to the leaves on its effortless flight around the bowl.
In addition to evaluating the functionality of each, we designed objective tests to look at how well each cleans fine particulates and dries. We drenched 26 pounds of lettuce and put them through the wringer, noting the percent of water removed from each batch.
This spinner uses a rotating knob mechanism and has to be operated with both hands — the other hand holds the lid down or it'll tip. To help keep the Tokig secure, the lid also features a hand grip on the opposite side to the handle. We'll forever have a soft spot for how OXO designs products that are easy and comfortable to operate. Also in the lid is the spinner handle which turns effortlessly and sends the inner colander flying, resulting in quickly dried, undamaged leaves.
It comes in a lovely sage green hue that is the perfect balance between minimalistic, chic and yet still eye-catching. There is a knack to this that we came to with some practice and involved turning more slowly and carefully. Much of this comes down to personal preference, but stainless steel bowls are generally considered more attractive for serving, while clear, plastic bowls are more convenient because they allow you to see the greens as they spin.Measuring 24 cm at the top, the transparent plastic bowl is a good size for a small family; it can also be used to serve your dish.
We assessed each salad spinner on design, efficiency, durability, appearance, ease of use, and ease of cleaning. One particular note here is that the OXO models are quite similar in many ways, but our reviewer found the OXO Steel's colander was flimsier, which resulted in a slightly lower score.Despite having a very similar design theme to the OXO Good Grips Salad Spinner, which worked fine here, the OXO Steel's brake button consistently failed to "bite. Freshly-cleaned lettuce will last longer and experience less wilting if they're rolled up in towels after spinning since the towels will absorb the remaining moisture while keeping the leaves from drying out. The spinner bowl is great for serving; the bowl is clear and the flexible center band, as well as the grippy ring on the base, are a cheerful bright green.
