About this deal

The added bonus, in my mind, and what made it usable for different ages, was that there are two different options for how you unzip the cot. Sometimes we swap the bulky padded mattress for a short ultralight thermarest and make it even more packable. Now that she’s moving I often close the side but still open the top as it allows her to stand up and look out when she is awake. The foam mattress is fixed down with three strips of heavy duty Velcro and this stayed in place even with my energetic toddler and wriggling 13-month-old Hannah playing in it.

Looking like a tent, rather than a standard four poster construction travel cot, the Little Life is relatively simple to assemble. This travel cot hasn’t been designed for a weekend at grandma’s; it’s not particularly easy to put up and it has to be attached to a piece of suitable furniture if you’re indoors. Once inserted, the ends of the poles are fixed in each of the four corners, causing the poles to bend and create the tent shape. As the name suggests, this travel cot has an arc-shaped dome over an enclosed and padded foam mattress (which is removable and washable). The zippable mesh sides allowed my daughter to look out and would also help with air flow, especially in a hotter country,’ said our tester. As well as this, it doesn’t seem to fit too snugly inside the tent; it curls over slightly at the corners but this is an aesthetic concern rather than a safety one. The poles don’t stick out far from the edge of the tent - in the past I’ve used an older model Phil and Ted’s and tripped over the legs on my way out of the room - waking baby.

In the past, we have not travelled with a travel cot as we felt that the hassle of carrying something bulky was never justified. The cot complies with British Safety Standards and is suitable for babies and children with see through mesh panels. Youngest is now 14 months and when we went camping last bank holiday, we didn't bother with the cots and just put her on a camping mattress - slept fine. Due to the tent poles sticking out on each corner the Arc 2 takes up a little more space than a traditional travel cot (85cm wide by 133cm length), but we’ve so far not had any problems squeezing it into any hotel room.

In terms of general use, this cot could be used for short trips away or for longer holidays abroad but not used in place of a regular newborn bed. All thoughts and opinions expressed are the reviewer’s own and are not influenced by the brand or affliliates.

INTELLIGENT DESIGN: Designed in the UK by the LittleLife team, specialising in long lasting, quality products. A nifty zipped panel at the side of the cot allows you to lift baby in and out easily or, if they’re a crawler or walker, they can move in and out themselves while playing. The Arc 2 Cot is surprisingly spacious yet it has an incredibly small footprint which means it can be erected in the smallest of spaces and after use, everything packs away neatly into its own carry case. It would withstand a small child running into it, but if fallen on it would likely be bent out of shape – the shock-corded aluminium poles should help to limit any damage here though.
