As an avian-human hybrid, Fang's physical attributes are enhanced to the point his speed and strength are superior to normal teenagers and even most adults. He uses this to keep up with Erasers in combat. However these attributes are inferior to newer enhanced beings such as Dylan, Kate, Star, and Horsemen.

Volume 6 was released in December 2012 and features Angel on the cover. It almost finished Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports but cuts off around the time Fang's blog readers are destroying Itex. Max is the titular character and narrator of the series. She has wings like a bald eagle, except they are 13 feet wide. She is 14 and turns 15 in FANG. She is the half-sister of Ella Martinez and Ari Batchelder and is the daughter of Jeb Batchelder and Dr. Valencia Martinez. She has brown eyes and her hair is described as sun-streaked blond or brown. She falls in love with Fang. Volume 2 was released on October 27, 2009, and features Fang on the cover. It completes The Angel Experiment and at the end, there is a preview of FANG. Ari showed a consistent obsession with Max, hating and envying her, yet wanting to spend time with her and have her to himself. In School's Out - Forever, Angel told Max that Ari "loved" her. Ari had a strong (but reluctant) admiration for Max, even going so far as to come up with a plan to steal Max away so she could play with him. However his wolfish-seven-year-old self showed through when he added that he planned to cut off her wings.

The Marvel Comics adaption Max Ride: First Flight debuted April 8, 2015. It featured the talents of Marguerite Bennett and Alex Sanchez. Together, the comic series adapted the first three books of the series. There are significant differences from the books. Rather than avian wings, the characters have wings made of a metal alloy. Fang goes with Max to visit Dr. Martinez, and stays with her while she has surgery. On pain medication, she confesses that she loves him, which he later teasingly tells her about. However, he finds a picture of the Gasman in Dr. Martinez's office, making him wary of the seemingly kind woman. Despite this, Fang kisses Max later in the book. Patterson is not just for adults anymore. With the Maximum Ride series he has created edgy, taut thrillers that teens won't be able to put down. The characters are easy to identify with, and I can't wait to see what happens to Max and her family next!" I loved this book!
