About this deal

While their early models were absolutely capable, the company didn’t make it to the premier league of grinders until 2019 with the imposing models in the Jx-series. This model is quite iconic, and you’ll often see this design if you visit a flea market in Europe. When you say “coffee mill” there’s a good chance that older people would think of this specific model. If money is no object, and you’re primarily looking for a grinder for manual brewing, this is still a very solid choice. For example, the grinder produces a more consistent grind than the Baratza Encore, often recommended as the best option for beginners. Conclusion For instance, the Kinu M47 Traveler weighs in at 598 g/1.3 lbs, while the massive Lido 3 comes in at 1052 g/2.5 pounds.

However, if you prefer a typical medium to medium-light roast and brewing at a standard 1:15 ratio, then I think the standard burr set will be just fine for your needs. As far as portability is concerned, these grinders are not travel-sized per se. The basic version weighs in at 650 grams/23 oz. Sizewise it’s comparable to Comandante C40 so it’s still possible to bring on a trip. K-Max comes with a cleaning brush and grind blower to help maintain the burrs. Also included is a cylindrical carry case to store your grinder on the go! The curved handle is a pleasure to use, and is a nice upgrade from the first generation of the grinder (called the Mini Q). Many manual coffee grinders are suitable for espresso but will take several minutes to grind finely enough. In contrast, the K-Ultra only takes less than a minute to grind for espresso and just 30 seconds for filter coffee on a medium setting. Now, that’s impressive.

The Taiwanese company took the Asian coffee-loving market by storm with their manual coffee grinders. The full 1Zpresso grinder range focuses on quality and innovation. And, now, they are the top choice of hand grinders around the world, even winning a Red Dot design award for their intuitive designs. Unlike the rest of the 1Zpresso line, the K series houses a specialised 48mm heptagonal 'K-burr' which provides high consistency across the entire range with minimal fine production in the coarse settings.

Pentagonal burr set (standard): is almost identical to the burrs used in the Helor 101 and the Timemore C2. After consistency, speed is the one thing I care most about when reviewing manual coffee grinders, and the Jx standard is the fastest I have ever tried. The JX Pro’s adjustable grind selector is located on the top, allowing you to control how fine a grind you are looking for. You simply fill the upper chamber with your coffee beans and turn the handle to your desired grind size. So what about the Q2? The Q2 is a portable grinder which produces great grind consistency in the pour-over range. The Q2 can, and will, produce espresso fine grinds to a high standard. It is the entry level model in the range that tries to fit the bill for everybody, and it fits pour-overs more than espresso. In terms of speed, I’m quite pleased. Grinding 20 grams of light roast coffee takes about 45 seconds. That’s quite fast and again similar to the much larger and more imposing Lido 3. Heptagonal burrs vs Pentagonal?

Don’t listen to the manufacturers and their marketing BS. Let me break down the features for you here, so you know what to go for in a grinder.
