About this deal

Convenient hand-controlled on/off switch so you don’t put down too much whatever and harm the lawn. No matter which type of lawn feed spreader you’re using, they are all very easy to operate. All you need to do is adjust the spread rate to suit your needs, then fill the container section up with your lawn feed and disperse it on the area that needs it. However, not all models use the same dispersing technique, and if you go to our Best lawn Feed Spreaders Buyer’s Guide, you’ll see how we compare rotary lawn feed spreaders with drop lawn feed spreaders. Types of lawn feed spreader The EverGreen Wizz Year Round Spreader is a little different. As you can probably tell from the pictures, this isn't your average push-along spreader. You'll have to carry this thing around the lawn. Though it may seem a little less comfortable and convenient, there are many advantages that the model has over its push-along competition. The capacity of a lawn spreader relates to how much granular product – whether grass seed, fertilizer, or salt – the hopper holds at one time. For this product, it’s usually given in kilograms (kg), and the higher the number, the less often you have to stop your task and refill. Of course, the more product you put in, the heavier the spreader is to push. It has a 38.5 kg capacity, so we’re not talking about your standard gardening tool here… the unit gets hooked up to a ride-on mower or tractor, and can cover approximately 1300 m² (that’s about ¼ of an acre) before needing to be refilled.

Read on below and our buyer’s guide will try to provide the answers to these questions and more. Comparing the types of lawn feed spreader If, after reading the end of that previous review, you think you would prefer something that is much simpler to put together, the Scotts EvenGreen drop spreader might be something that piques your interest. There are many small and not-so-small variables between different models. The spreading width will determine just how suitable the particular model is for different lawns. The spreading settings will tell you how accurate and precise the spreader will be with different lawn treatment products. We haven’t included any handheld spreaders in our review but they’re useful to know about. These spreaders are compact for small gardening needs and are very affordable. While they do tend to throw seeds/fertiliser granules in all directions, they’re great for filling in damaged small gaps in your lawn or getting into tight areas where your larger spreader can’t reach. The larger handheld spreaders are powered by battery rather than you having to hand crank them. Capacity To keep a lawn tip top you need the right lawn spreader. You’ve got to prep the soil, keep on top of lawn aeration for which we can use a decent scarifier or raker these days, you need to get rid of any unwanted weeds with a weed killer if you prefer (preferably a weed killer that is tested on pets), before they become a problem, and many more tasks just to have a chance at that dream patch of grass. A little perseverance and patience saw me through it though, and I was very pleased with the fully assembled product at the end and thought it was worth the effort. As the "year-round" part in the name suggests, you can use this little implement throughout the year. It is perfect for spreading grass seed and lawn fertiliser in spring and summer as well as salt in winter to prevent slippery surfaces. The EverGreen Easy Spreader Plus isn't the most versatile model in this selection but it is definitely one of the more well-balanced products here. Considering the price tag, the spreader's specs and characteristics are very impressive. Its sophisticated dispensing mechanism with 9 very much variable settings will allow you to always choose the right application rate.

When used with either fertiliser or grass seed, it spreads the particles evenly over the area, dramatically improving results compared to doing the job by hand. It’s a good choice for medium-sized lawns. Drop spreaders are best for lawns that contain lots of landscaping elements, such as flowers beds and narrow green strips, that need you to make tight turns. Handheld spreaders The thing is, that this lawn feed spreader comes in quite a lot of different parts and takes a while to assemble. Not only that, but the instructions aren’t the clearest on some of the assembly points and it does lead to a little frustration. Raking/Scarifying: Remove moss and fallen leaf debris to prevent the build up of dead organic material that encourages moss growthIt is important to feed your lawn in autumn with Aftercut All In One Autumn as the iron will kill the moss on your lawn, creating less competition and a healthier, stronger lawn to withstand winter stress conditions. The Potassium helps to move the energy to the roots for essential storage over the winter months and the right amount of Nitrogen will green up your lawn whilst avoiding excessive growth prior to winter. Along with these features, the unit itself is made of strong, shatter-proof plastic that will hold up well to repeated use, and which will prove to be resistant to corrosion, an especially important point when used in wet conditions. The control lever lets you easily set the amount of spread to be dispensed in one go, ensuring that you're getting just the right amount spread around your lawn. However, it is still a very good lawn feeder spreader for the price and if used as intended, it does a great job. Whilst rotary spreaders can be prone to flinging grass seed everywhere, including into flowerbeds, this EverGreen Easy Spreader Plus is a drop spreader that only dispenses seed, or fertiliser, under the unit as you walk (so you won’t find yourself pulling unwanted grass shoots out of the flowerbed a week later!). So, what are the negatives? Well, I can only really find one, but it might be enough to put some people off.

Drop spreader allows for accurate application of granular products so you don;t put seeds or fertiliser where you don’t want them A rotary lawn spreader, sometimes referred to as a ‘broadcast spreader’, works by flinging fertiliser/grass seed out as its rotator spins. A rotary lawn seed spreader will allow you to cover more area in less time, quite desirable if you have a larger lawn. From a lawn feed spreader designed for bigger gardens, to one for those smaller lawns now with the Gardena hand-held spreader.
