About this deal

With no fewer than 52 hardware controls providing up to 171 MIDI commands across 3 layers plus the ability to link multiple units using X:LINK, saving USB ports on your computer Xone:K2 has the power and flexibility to put you in touch with the functions and features of your chosen software. Having three ‘universal’ layers and simply duplicating mappings between them for controls that you don’t want to change does more or less the same thing as latching certain sections of the controller, indeed providing even more flexibility still.

Given, you can do the same with a normal fader but these specific faders on the K2 cradle your finger, avoiding them to slip. As well as keeping it safe on the road, the case doubles as a stand, elevating the K2 up to the same height as most pro DJ mixers. Use the mixer’s Latching Layers system to assign controls to multiple layers—giving one physical control up to 3 functions. It’s not as loud as an NI card, but it’s definitely loud enough and the latency keeps pace just fine. We’ll make a full comparison between the two in a future piece, but for now let’s look at the NI’s Kontrol X1 in comparison to the Xone K2. In particular, Software may not be downloaded, or otherwise exported or re-exported (i) into, or to a national or resident of, Cuba, Iraq, Iran, North Korea, Libya, Sudan, Syria (as such listing may be revised from time to time) or any country to which the U. On the front is a single 1/8″ headphones socket, and round the back are a pair of RCA audio outs, the USB socket (it takes its power from USB) and two proprietary X:LINK sockets. Certain software libraries and other third party software included with the Software are free software and licenced under the terms of open source licences. Furthermore, while you can create aggregate devices easily on a Mac, you’ll have to use third-party software to do so on a PC.

Two could be used together to double up (it’s possible to aggregate audio), or you could use one or two of them with an analogue mixer. Even without the audio interface, the K2’s a pretty good value proposition, but add in master and monitor outputs and you’re really getting a good deal. including 12 analogue and 6 endless rotary encoders with push switch, 4 linear faders, and 30 backlit performance switches - providing up to 171 M IDI control commands across 3 layers. With the layer press, the controls can be used in three layers, giving the controller even more versatility with 171 MIDI commands.Kudos to Allen and Heath for taking the best parts of their nonetheless now dated and bulky Xone:1D and Xone:2D devices, seeing the success of the jogwheel-less Trkator Kontrol X1, and bringing it all together in a new device with built-in audio. Xone:K2 integrates with the most popular DAWs so you can focus on your music without the pain of writing automation with a mouse or trackpad. Of corse, in this instance as the DB mixers have built-in sound, you’ll only be using the K2s ad Midi interfaces, not as audio devices at all. Overall, then, if you’re a DJ who wants to add extra digital control to an existing digital set-up, or who wants to use a slimline device as your only controller alongside a laptop, and you’re attracted to making a mapping that suits you, the Xone:K2 has got to be something you’ll want to look at seriously.

Whether you are working with stems, triggering samples or creating new sounds on the fly, the Xone:K2 keeps you firmly in control, no matter how creative and spontaneous the live show gets.Studiocare Professional Audio Limited is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, registration number 778381. A quick-start template for Ableton Live gets you up and running with the essential controls, or you can create custom templates to match your own personal workflow and performance style. It was the 1st edition of the Kontrol X1 and I still have it many years later and I still love how it works. There are four faders, 12 standard pots, six continuous stepped rotaries with push switchers, 28 standard pushbuttons, and two large pushbuttons.

Xone:K2 has 52 physical controls – including 12 analogue and 6 endless rotary encoders with push switch, 4 linear faders, and 30 backlit performance switches - providing up to 171 MIDI control commands across 3 layers. As well as keeping it safe on the road, the case doubles as a stand, bringing the K2 up to the same height as most pro DJ mixers. The latching layers allow you to assign the controls across multiple layers which means a single control can be used in three different ways. You never need to play with layers if you don’t want to, but if you do (and you should, to get the most out of the unit) then pressing the layer button switches between three layers, and you can decide whether every control on the unit, only the 16 buttons, only the buttons below the knobs, or all the buttons (but not the knobs or sliders) is part of the layer switch. You could map it to Ableton Live, Traktor, Virtual DJ, MixVibes and so on, you might use it for VJing, for controlling lighting even. Since getting an Ableton Push, my APC40 seemed a little big and heavy - this pretty much replaces all of the functionality the the Push is missing in a nice small package. Lanchpad/macbookpro/k2, I could ride to a gig on my bike with this and no separate sound card necessary. Due to the compact size, the very useful layout, handy soundcard and supplied carry case, it really is a great multi-purpose tool which I recommend warmly.
