The Belvedere is a historic building complex in Vienna, Austria, consisting of two Baroque palaces (the Upper and Lower Belvedere), the Orangery, and the Palace Stables. The buildings are set in a Baroque park landscape in the third district of the city, on the south-eastern edge of its centre. It houses the Belvedere museum. The grounds are set on a gentle gradient and include decorative tiered fountains and cascades, Baroque sculptures, and majestic wrought iron gates. The Baroque palace complex was built as a summer residence for Prince Eugene of Savoy. Guided tours for groups in Austrian sign language and for the visually impaired (tactile tours). Ever since its inception, the Belvedere has been a house of art. At first, it accommodated the collections of Prince Eugene;later, it became home to large parts of the imperial collection. The opening of the Modern Gallery in the Lower Belvedere in 1903 paved the way for today's collection.

Erroneously called by some 'Nuxley Village' because the main road is 'Nuxley Road'. Nuxley was the name of a small heath that used to exist some 1Km south of the village, which was cleared in the 1815 land enclosure act, the road takes its name from this. Multimedia guides with videos in Austrian Sign Language (OGS) are available to deaf and hearing impaired visitors. Over 30 videos provide information on selected works of the collection in the Upper Belvedere and on the palace and garden complex as well as the history of the Belvedere. Gardens [ edit ] View of the gardens seen from the Upper Belvedere, painted by Bernardo Bellotto in 1758 Belvedere is a lithograph print by the Dutch artist M. C. Escher, first printed in May 1958. It shows a plausible-looking belvedere building that is an impossible object, modelled after an impossible cube. Colin Seeley (1936–2020), champion motorcyclist and motorbike designer, lived in Belvedere and worked on Nuxley Road [32]Reduced admission for persons with special needs and their escorts (3 Euro each). "Seeing differently" tours (tactile tours) in the Upper Belvedere: The tours with picture descriptions and tactile support are particularly suitable for blind and visually impaired visitors. Here, the text, the tree, the word ‘vodka’ in blue, the snow on the tree, and the bar code are printed one at a time. In total, there are 33 steps from start to finish. We weren’t exaggerating when we said it was a long process.

The heart of the Belvedere collection is formed by the 24 paintings of Gustav Klimt with his golden images "The Kiss" and "Judith". Klimt's "The Kiss" in particular is world-famous. The 180 x 180 cm painting was created in 1908/09 and shows Klimt and his muse Emilie Flöge as a couple in love. "The Kiss" is probably Austria's most famous work of art. Klimt's portraits of women also impress and be marveled at in the Upper Belvedere. In 2011 Belvedere Vodka entered a partnership with Product Red, launching the limited-edition (Belvedere)RED bottle whose profits go toward the Global Fund that fights disease such as AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria. This partnership also included campaigns with musicians like John Legend, Usher, and artists like Esther Mahlangu who designed limited-edition bottles. Belvedere Vodka is the official vodka brand of the 24th James Bond film. The Belvedere Gardens were designed in the formal French manner with clipped hedges, gravelled walks and jeux d'eau by Dominique Girard, who had trained in the gardens of Versailles as a pupil of André Le Nôtre. Extensive mythological references throughout the gardens allude to the rise of Prince Eugene with a sculptural program linking him to the god Apollo. [1] A great water basin in the upper parterre and the stairs and cascades peopled by nymphs and goddesses that links upper and lower parterres survive, but the patterned bedding has long been grassed over; it is currently being restored. elevators reachable via a ramp (staff will provide assistance), wheelchairs available at the cloakroom. The construction of the Upper Belvedere began as early as 1717, as testified by two letters that Prince Eugene sent from Belgrade to his servant Benedetti in summer 1718, describing the progress of work on the palace. [ citation needed] Construction was so far advanced by 2 October 1719 that the prince was able to receive the Turkish ambassador Ibrahim Pasha there. The decoration of the interior started as early as 1718. In 1719 he commissioned the Italian painter Francesco Solimena to execute both the altarpiece for the Palace Chapel and the ceiling fresco in the Golden Room. In the same year Gaetano Fanti was commissioned to execute the illusionistic quadratura painting in the Marble Hall. In 1720 Carlo Carlone was entrusted with the task of painting the ceiling fresco in the Marble Hall, which he executed from 1721 to 1723. The woman about to climb the steps of the building is modeled after a figure from the right-hand panel of Hieronymus Bosch's 1500 triptych The Garden of Earthly Delights. This panel is individually titled Hell; a portion of it was recreated by Escher as a lithograph in 1935. [1] Although Belvedere Vodka was not introduced to the U.S. until 1996, its production began in Poland three years earlier in 1993 — at one of the oldest Polish distilleries. Located in the small town of Żyrardów, Polmos Żyrardów Distillery was constructed in 1910 and has exclusively produced Belvedere Vodka since the brand’s launch. Belvedere’s Single Estate Rye Series showcases terroir in vodka.

In 1776, Maria Theresa and her son, Emperor Joseph II decided to transfer the k.u.k. Gemäldegalerie ("Imperial Picture Gallery") from the Imperial Stables – a part of the city's Hofburg Imperial Palace – to the Upper Belvedere. Inspired by the idea of enlightened absolutism, the intention was to make the imperial collection accessible to the general public. [2] The gallery opened five years later, making it one of the first public museums in the world. [ citation needed] A series of eminent painters served as directors in charge of the imperial collection in the Upper Belvedere up to 1891 when it was transferred to the newly built Kunsthistorisches Museum (Museum of Fine Arts) on Vienna's Ringstrasse. Currently, it boasts 18,600 works covering900 years of art history. Highlights of the collection include works from the Middle Ages, the Austrian Baroque and Viennese Biedermeier, and the period in Vienna from around 1900, complemented by works by Claude Monet and Vincent van Gogh with an additional focus on the20th and 21st centuries. The most extensive collection of works by Austrian icon Gustav Klimt lives inside the Belvedere, with famous paintings like The Kissor Judith attracting visitors from around the world. At the Lower Belvedere, on the other hand, temporary exhibits take centre stage. Smaller shows are ideally suited for the smaller palace building and the Orangerie. Bull, Tom (22 October 2018). The Belvedere Vodka name comes from two places, each with its own special meaning to the brand. It’s first named after Belweder, the Polish presidential palace in Warsaw and the illustration that appears on each bottle, its importance being the homeland of the product. But for the brand to communicate more phonetic finesse, the name decided was Belvedere, which is derived from the Italian words bel, meaning beautiful, and vedere, which means view. Belvedere Vodka is produced in one of the world’s longest-operating Polish distilleries.
