The rum’s production will take place on board Arvia in the world’s first rum distillery at sea located in Anderson’s Bar. A 50-litre still known as Aurelia will be housed in the distillery, Aurelia will distil the Golden Tide rum as the ship travels around the Caribbean. Created by Jersey-based founders of Shorts Boy Distillery, Ben Clyde-Smith and Harry Coulthard, The Tidal Rum is inspired and influenced by the sea and shore. Its rich golden smoothness comes from a careful blend of Caribbean cask-aged rums from Trinidad, Jamaica, Barbados and the Dominican Republic, whilst an infusion of lightly oak smoked Pepper Dulse, a little-known wild seaweed known as ‘the truffle of the sea’ found on Jersey’s coastline at low tide, gives a unique ocean salted caramel flavour. A well balanced sweet nose with fresh citrus, immediately followed by a deep rich oaky chocolate with bitter orange. Pepper Dulse comes through this all adding to the complexity and marine note. Our signature serve “ The Tidal” is a simple double measure of Tidal, soda and half a fresh lime squeezed in. Jersey has an exceptionally large tidal range (up to forty feet). This enables those who know where to look to forage, on foot, for ingredients that would normally require deep diving. This coupled with the unique microclimate provide the perfect conditions to access a sustainable supply of tidal botanicals, such as Pepper Dulse. After foraging a fresh batch of Pepper Dulse we sun dry, oak smoke and then infuse our bespoke blended rum with it . This gives Tidal Rum its unique flavour.Heart warming rum with a good texture, nice progression from balanced sweet, hint of tannin, to tarte smoke. Dark chocolate orange with heavy red wine. Overall smooth, fresh and distinctively influenced by Pepper Dulse. P&O partnered with Salcombe Distilling Co to launch the ‘first’ gin distillery at sea on cruise ship Iona With a shared passion for adventure, the sea and creating memorable rum experiences, The Tidal Rum is delighted to be collaborating with P&O Cruises to open the rum distillery on board its newest ship, Arvia which arrives in December 2022, where Golden Tide, a new rum will be distilled.

Jersey-based rum brand, The Tidal Rum has released the ‘world’s first rum to be distilled at sea’,Golden Tide. We are so delighted that following Iona’s on board gin distillery we are, once again, innovating with this first rum distillery at sea on Arvia which will be so fitting in the Caribbean sunshine. Pepper Dulse (“osmundea pinnatifida”) is a little known Jersey delicacy. It can only be harvested seasonally (December-May) on spring tides. FLAVOUR A long and rich finish that gives more than a typical rum. As the caramel and bitter orange fade away, the deep truffle flavour of Pepper Dulse is left, a reminder of the sea. Rum blending class: A unique experience which will take place in Anderson’s Bar on board Arvia, where a rum expert will show guests how to create their own delicious spirit with ingredients from the Caribbean and British coasts. A fun and hands-on session allowing guests to take home their own bottle of rum as a golden memory of their Caribbean holiday. In addition to Anderson’s Bar, Arvia will have a choice of 12 restaurants plus eight other exciting places to eat. Fleet favourites such as Epicurean, Sindhu and The Glass House and Iona icons including The Keel & Cow and The Olive Grove will star alongside dining concepts created exclusively for Arvia including Green & Co featuring Mizuhana, 6th Street Diner and Roast Carvery. Four carefully chosen rums are enhanced by the unique characteristics of Pepper Dulse. P&O Cruises announces The Tidal Rum as exclusive new partner on board Arvia and the first ever rum distillery at sea Crafted from a blend of rums distilled in Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad and the Dominican Republic, each aged in ex-bourbon white oak casks for between two and three years. This marvellous blend is then enhanced with an infusion of oak-smoked Pepper Dulse seaweed foraged from the tides of Jersey. The deep, earthy truffle taste of this sea botanical balances the rum beautifully, creating a complex and refined drink with layers of subtle, smoky coastal flavours.Arvia will join the P&O Cruises fleet in December 2022, her maiden voyage will be to the Canary Islands, followed by a winter season in the Caribbean. She will be the largest ship to sail from her home port of Barbados, offering guests a choice of holidays, ranging from 7 to 22 nights, with an overnight stay in Barbados and an extended call to Antigua on many holidays. She will join sister ship, Iona as one of the world’s most environmentally-friendly ships, fully powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). The distillery will produce an island-inspired rum, in partnership with Tidal Rum, a brand created by founders of Shorts Boy Distillery Ben Clyde-Smith and Harry Coulthard. An infusionist rum drink for the end of a long day, the start of a night of adventure, to share with friends or to warm the soul. Its smooth oak-finished rounded flavour warms, replenishes and evokes memories of the seaboard - reminding you of what life is all about. The result is a beautifully complex and refined craft rum balanced with deep truffle flavours from our oak-smoked Pepper Dulse seaweed. Rum tasting class: A chance for guests to delve deeper into the world of fine rums. The on-board rum expert will guide guests through a special tasting session in Anderson’s Bar on board Arvia – home of Aurelia, the first rum still at sea.
