About this deal

A defense attorney decides to represent a man accused of killing six teenagers. One of them was that attorney's son... Why is he so convinced of his innocence? Despite my best efforts to foresee the outcome, I was still perplexed at the reveal! That was a complete surprise to me. Everything comes together nicely, including the numerous points of view. With the exception of a few scenes in the conclusion that felt a little too far-fetched to me, I was left feeling happy and thrilled. My recommendation

During the reveal Rob had come to kill Gwen but he was interrupted by the detective. I was scratching my head wondering why she did not say anything and turn him in.Why on earth did Rob treat Gwen so well given his intentions to kill her? For example he gave her a ring that meant a lot to him. Did anyone else raise an eyebrow when Rob gave Gwen the ring, slept with her and then questioned her about John? Minow, Nell (October 9, 2014). "Writer Margaret Nagle Talks About The Good Lie". The Huffington Post.

As Gwen and Robert grow closer and she dives deeper into the investigation, grave questions arise. So does Gwen’s suspicion that Robert is hiding something—and that he might not be the only one with a secret. The same Robert Kavin who has one steamy stand with our heroine Gwen Moore, an aspiring, successful, smart psychiatrist specialized on patients who have extremely violent tendencies. So what if the lines between business and pleasure were blurry? Robert and Gwen had spent a night together, and it might go against the code of conduct. Gwen is ready to ignore the temptation and keep it professional. But how can she when there’s a growing tension between them? And how will they handle it when both of them are hiding something from each other? There’s one thing for sure. Things were about to take a sinister turn. I was hooked onto this one from the get-go. It’s compelling and riveting, with fully fleshed-out characters who have intriguing secrets. I’ve said this before, but Torre has got to be one of the most versatile authors I’ve ever read. Her books range from steamy erotic thrillers ( The Deanna Madden series...which I need more of!!),heartbreaking dramas ( The Ghostwriter), juicy and devious thrillers ( Every Last Secret), to this one...which is more of a straight up thriller (with a dollop of steam 🔥). A.R. Torre writes with an attention to detail like few others. Her characters feel like “real people” who you could meet on the street the next day. Everything they say and do feels so authentic. It’s definitely one of her strengths. When 17-year-old Scott Harden shows up at his home after being missing for almost 7 weeks, he becomes the first victim of serial killer, The Bloody Heart Killer, to escape. To everyone’s surprise he fingers Randall Thomspson, a long-time science teacher at his high school as the perpetrator. So why is attorney Robert Kavin, the father of the BH Killer’s 6th victim, Gabe, stepping forward to defend this man - pro bono, no less? Well, this went as expected in terms of how much I enjoyed it. And I expected nothing but a good time, based on the only other A.R. Torre’s book I’ve read, which was Every Last Secret.
