While continuing in a fairly similar vein to the phenomenal 'Lonesome Dreams' debut there is a sense that this an even more mature sound with a few nods to Johnny Cash (bass line rather than vocal) and the overall feel of adventuring in travel and love. Lord Huron is primarily the work of Michigan-native-gone-Cali Ben Schneider, who wrote and produced Strange Trails at the band's Whispering Pines studio in Los Angeles. I bought this one and Long Lost on vinyl at the same time and honestly, they sound beautiful in succession. Originally a solo project, collaborators now include Mark Barry (percussion, vocals), Miguel Briseno (bass, percussion) and Tom Renaud (guitar, vocals). I don't really understand how Lord Huron remain so firmly under the radar (particularly here in the UK) as their music is so accessible and uplifting.Whether you're drawn to the mystical atmosphere or simply appreciate well-crafted songs, this vinyl edition is a treasure. I already plan on having it with me next time my family and I hop in the car and head out on a journey.
