About this deal

James: A great choice of general in a Nighthaunt army – the Dreadblade Harrows’ Phantasmal Discorporation ability, combined with the Nighthaunt command ability Spectral Summons, can relocate a unit per turn. This is a great way of reinforcing a flank or objective that is important to a grand strategy or battle tactic! For my opponents, as I do tailor this list to hold up against them, it goes khorne player is running a 2 drop list with 3 bloodthirsters, one of which is skarbrand, the nurgle player is about 3 drops with 50 plaguebearers and 3 Great Unclean Ones, and the orks player is running a Big Waagh list that is near competitive so they say. from the newest contrast paint using Warp Lightning, to the paints specifically designed for this army ( Hexwraith Flame and Nighthaunt Gloom) to other technical colours like Nihilakh Oxide. The Dreadblade Harrows are the officers beneath the Knights of Shrouds. In life, each of these wights watched their leader’s betrayal, neither helping nor hindering. Even for Nighthaunts, Deadblade Harrows are especially discorporate, phantasmal figures who can disappear and reappear at will. They are the Knights of Regret, full of bitter recrimination, who in battle serve as bodyguards and lieutenants or are despatched as outriders. Rearing upon their spectral steeds, they vanish into wisps of mist only to gallop out of thin air elsewhere to carry out the most unchivalrous commands – culling the vulnerable, cutting off retreating warriors, and other heinous tasks.

Restricted to Nagash and Nighthaunt Hero Wizards only, here we see a few changes from the old lore, most notably and regretfully the loss of Reaping Scythe , most commonly seen on Nagash to allow him to reroll hits and wounds with Alakanash. Most of these spells have increased in cast value compared to previous versions, probably to take into account the fact that Nagash is a core part of the army now and casting on a 4 with +3 to cast was a bit silly. These are enormous benefits and will really change how the army plays. In the old rules your ghosts only got the 6+ ward save while within 12+ of a Nighthaunt Hero, limiting their ability to spread out over the battlefield. Now it’s just innate; you can use your various movement shenanigans to put your models exactly where they need to be without risking them losing their save. Unholy Light (Triple, Guardian of Souls): Heal D3 wound to all nearby friendly fighters (roll individually). We don’t think either of these lists are perfect, but almost any list you throw together in this book is worth trying! Wrapping it all upIt’s also worth noting that the March 2022 The Hunt update, which introduced the priority targets and prime hunters rules, won’t apply to this book – the writers of that update cleverly included a caveat that if a battletome or battletome update has a more recent publication date than March 2022, units from that publication may not be designated as either priority targets or prime hunters. Which is… honestly fine! Nighthaunt are in a much, much better spot than they were at the time. Spectral Summon(Triple, all Leaders): Set up again any fighter taken down with as many wounds left as the value of the ability. Fright of Flight is achieved if there are no enemy units within 6” of Nighthaunt units contesting an objective which is… challenging to achieve if you can’t control who has the final action of the game, and you have no meaningful ranged firepower to push the units away. Soul Wars: Knight of Shrouds on Ethereal Steed as a leader, Guardian of Souls as hero, 2 Grimghast Reapers, 2 Glaivewraith Stalkers and 1 Chainrasp. All available from the Soul Wars starter set for an all-round warband with weight, healing and numbers. We may have been a bit harsh on Nagash all of, uh, three paragraphs ago, but we really don’t think he has competitive viability at the top tables. He’s a model that’s very binary with victory almost decided at the list building step; if your army can solve the problem of him existing, you win, and if you can’t, you lose; there’s not a lot of tactical nuance or gameplay here. Bringing Nagash to a friendly game can lead to some real feels-bad moments when your opponent can’t solve him and you take off half their army, or they kill him round two and you’ve flat out just lost the game. We love Nagash at Goonhammer, but we’d happily see him reduced in power to increase in survivability and fun for everyone at the table.

Their movement is their greatest strength: they all fly and all have at least 6″ movement (10″ the cavalry). In addition their reaction can allow them to move around an enemy that passes by. I’m not 100% sure when you would use it, but I suspect if an enemy is coming towards you and you want to avoid the engagement and you have a platform nearby, you can move to the platform while maintaining the same distance but you are now out of the enemy’s weapon range. Just for fun here we present few thematic warbands, meant more for fun or narrative context than for competitive play. Note that in narrative play you need to complete a quest that allows you to recruit a Hero before being able to add him to your roster. Lingering Spirits gives you a 4+ ward save against mortal wounds, which is nice but you probably have better things to be doing than probably still failing to keep your general alive against Lumineth Sentinels. The Dreadblade Harrows are the officers beneath the Knights of Shrouds. In life, each of these wights watched their leader's betrayal, neither helping nor hindering. Their half measures have been duly rewarded with a curse in death, for they are compelled to serve their treacherous lords eternally. [1a] Faction rules completely redesign the way the army is played, rewriting Nighthaunt into an incredibly mobile scalpel of an army. James: Heading into the new edition, Nighthaunt armies receive notable gifts from the new Core Rules. Previously the army could struggle to replenish their ranks in the same way as other Death faction armies do. Now, with the new Rally command ability, you have ample opportunity to rejuvenate those ghostly spectres! Each hero phase allows you to replenish reinforced units waiting to roll that 10+ to charge and trigger the Wave of Terror ability. Hey Haunters, I'm a rather new Nighthaunt player who brewed up a new 2000 point list and I would like to hear what the community thinks of it. I play in a small friend group of Khorne, Nurgle, and Orks.

So, when this article refers to an ability being a Double, a Triple or a Quad, it refers to this system. It might sound a bit confusing, but takes no time to get used to when you start playing What changed in the new edition for the Nighthaunt Warband? Also, entirely arbitrarily, these units only moves 6” a turn, the slowest in the book. Give this one a miss. Scriptor Mortis Even for Nighthaunts, Dreadblade Harrows are especially discorporate, phantasmal figures atop spectral steeds, who can disappear and reappear at will. They are the Knights of Regret, full of bitter recriminations. In battle they serve as bodyguards and lieutenants, or are despatched as outriders. Rearing upon their spectral steeds, they vanish into wisps of mist only to gallop out of thin air elsewhere to fulfil even the most unchivalrous commands - culling the vulnerable, cutting off retreating warriors, and other heinous tasks.
