About this deal

The book begins with Asma’s introduction to this personal history, before discussing a number of techniques essential to elevate your Indian cooking, from the proper browning of onions. In short, Asma’s Indian Kitchen is a fantastic cookbook and you’re sure to have a lot of fun exploring with it. Divided into chapters devoted to dinners-a-deux, family meals, cooking for friends, and celebratory feasting, the book draws both from Asma’s diverse – and noble – family heritage (Rajput, Bengali and Bihari, with close links to Hyderabad) and her time in cosmopolitan (then) Calcutta; a city of notorious epicures, where good food is universally adored and embraced irrespective of its origin. When one is reviewing a cook book, one usually tries to make 2 or 3 recipes from the book, but with this one I decided to go all out.

Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH). Her culinary heritage was a rich one, born to paternal and maternal royal ancestry – each with their own cuisines. Before I talk about anything else, I just want to make it known that I am a very big fan of Indian food!

Darjeeling Express began life as a dinner for 12 guests at home - Indian food, lovingly cooked from family recipes going back generations. Notice to Internet Explorer users Server security: Please note Internet Explorer users with versions 9 and 10 now need to enable TLS 1.

Thanks so much for the intro and review of Asma’s cookbook – sounds like a wonderful addition to my collection as well.As such, her cooking covers a swathe of regional India, and looks to both royal feasts and simple street food.

Asma has interspersed her recipes with family anecdotes, which I think adds to the content of the book. Since I read cookbooks like novels and Asma loves to tell stories, I think I need to pick up this book. You shape the meatballs and then cook them in the sauce itself, not frying or baking them beforehand, and I was worried that my meatballs would fall to slush, but the recipe was easy to do and the instructions easy to follow. This is more than just a collection of delicious and accessible recipes, it is a celebration of heritage, culture, community and quality.

Unlike other kormas I’ve had, this one has you fry up the onions separately and eat them crisp on the top. Interspersed throughout the book are more of Asma’s personal stories and recollections, plus wonderful photographs taken by Ming Tang-Evans who accompanied Asma during one of her visits to Calcutta. With rare exceptions such as bank holidays, the book group meets on the first Wednesday of every month at 7. This piece has another purpose: to express deep pride in a longtime friend whom I’ve seen evolve from an at-home host with aptitude into a super-successful professional restaurateur who’s currently a bit of a darling of London’s culinary scene – with her very own episode of Netflix’s Chef’s Table in the pipeline to boot. The pre-loved books are carefully cleaned and maintained offering a wide variety of general and specialist titles from children's to adults.
