About this deal

If you do have that vaunted vinyl edition, or perhaps are one of the lucky ones to have an original UK mono pressing, then this inclusion may be extraneous for you. Revolver: Special Edition is an expanded reissue of the 1966 album Revolver by the English rock band the Beatles. MM adds: If you want to read more about the minutiae behind the mixing and de-mixing process for the Revolver box set vinyl directly from Giles Martin, go here to read Mike Mettler’s in-depth wax-centric interview. For years, I’ve duped it to cassette, burned it to CD, or synched it to my iThing with “Rain” in its place and it improves the whole character of side 2 of the album and firmly fixes the band’s musical attention on the future.

Ringo’s drumming hits a lot harder, with random bits of noise flying about and cosmic seagulls sailing through the air from the right channel to the left and back again. But then again, they didn’t really care about separating the instruments, because in those days most albums that were sold were in mono. Kind of wish I was a vinyl guy, but then I’d always be freaking out that I was wearing the album out a little bit every time I played it.

Over tea in Los Feliz, Turner discusses his band’s new album, ‘The Car,’ and the ‘amusing choices’ he made as a younger singer. Annie Zaleski of The Guardian gave the album five out of five stars, writing: " Revolver 's new details tease out deeper meanings in the songs. The use of E7♭9 vocal harmony always sounded wonky to me so I don’t think it’s actually sung out of tune. In contrast, the new stereo mix strives to deliver a bit more of that balanced feel, akin to the original mono mix. All the new Revolver releases feature the album’s new stereo mix, sourced directly from the original four-track master tapes.

I expect he isn’t listening to Thelonius Monk or Hank Williams or Mozart ‘cause, you know, that’s from the past. One of my immediate takeaways from immersing myself in this Super Deluxe Edition Revolver set is the essential role Ringo Starr played in elevating The Beatles’ music to its next level. Along with the restoration of the original album artwork by Voormann, the record sleeve that holds the session outtakes features Robert Freeman's proposed cover design, featuring the heads of the Beatles in a psychedelic circle. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (2017), The BEATLES (‘White Album’) (2018), Abbey Road (2019), and Let It Be (2021). Before it was a glorious mash of swirling sounds, picking them apart somehow makes it less exciting.Lennon’s songs provided the swagger that made the Beatles head and shoulders above their contemporaries.

I have about 6 Revolver presses that just about sound the same except for the 22 which is missing his scale runs. Of course, a few of these were on the "Anthology" series back in the 90's, but many are unique to this set. For the LP format a pause between songs was deemed necessary; it wasn’t, and the Beatles eliminated it on Pepper — groundbreaking in 1967! After the December 1965 release of their groundbreaking album, Rubber Soul, and after wrapping up that year's tour dates, a late decision to cancel shooting plans for a third Beatles film, A Talent For Loving, would have a significant effect on the creation of Revolver.Take note of those neat, mostly four-beat tambourine hits that help propel “And Your Bird Can Sing” and arguably lift the song, making it a clear standout track.
