Marques de Casa Noble came out in 2022, a blend of 12 extra anejo and 9 anejo tequilas matured from one to five years in specially selected French oak barrels that were aged for three years before being filled. Over 500 families are involved with the commercial activities, workers are trained and employed from within the region. Whiskey fans should give the Double Barrel expression a try to see if they can pick up those extra notes of oak and vanilla.

Puntas” means distiller’s cut, referring to the spirits taken from a particular point in the distillation process. The Mundial Collection started out with the Laphroaig Edition, a single barrel reposado finished in scotch casks from that Islay distillery that added a subtle smokey layer to the palate.It’s a crisp tequila filled with citrus flavors, both fruity and spicy, and packed full of herbaceous notes. The Corralejo hacienda has its origin in a land destined for cultivation granted in 1532 by the Spanish crown. The Luxury Collection is made of an agave mash that is slow-cooked fo 42 hours, then aged in small, second-fill American bourbon oak casks. They have a passion for authenticity which is represented in their brand, and in the tequila which they produce. The Añejo is rich and vegetal with notes of vanilla and caramel and is aged in ex-American whiskey barrels for one year. There are several people behind this new brand, including entrepreneur McCauley Williams who was inspired by his wildlife photographer uncle to donate some of the profits to jaguar conservation efforts in Mexico.

According to founder and master distiller Jose “Pepe” Hermosillo, this means the reposado and anejo expressions are created by “selecting different barrels according to characteristics and integrating up to 14 lots to create complexity and balance. If you visit Penjamo, you should not miss the opportunity to visit the former Hacienda Corralejo, the birthplace of the father of the independence – Priest Miguel Hidalgo – and adapted to be one of the largest distilleries in the region. This gives the tequila a whiff of smoke on the palate, far from the assertive nature of many mezcals but noticeable nonetheless. There is a sharp pepperiness, along with citrus notes, vanilla and honey notes, and some seasoned oak.

It’s aged for one month in Napa Valley Cabernet French oak wine barrels that have not been charred, infusing the blanco with both color and flavor. It’s a versatile brand that somehow maintains a small business mentality while selling thousands of bottles. There are a range of expressions from blanco to extra anejo to try, including a new six-year-old tequila that was aged in George Dickel Tennessee whiskey barrels. Hacienda Corralejo has a local program for artisanal producers giving them the opportunity to expose their products from local ethnic communities.
