About this deal

It is definitely replaceable, though we do not recommend that customers try this on their own to avoid voiding warranties and/or causing any damage to the unit. If the battery requires service or replacement, our support team is standing by and ready to provide service options! A big strength of the MPCs is their ability to directly host USB MIDI devices. Now you can connect and use USB MIDI interfaces, and also connect devices via a USB hub. I connected the Retrokits RK006 interface that I have on test, and boom: 10 new MIDI output ports on my MPC! The port manager lets you name ports, choose whether they output sync, and whether they are for notes or control, or both. Powerful sound generators driven by completely new FM synthesis, analogue & physical modelling, and AIR Mellotron features 6 Tape Sets of the OG’s Flute, Choir and Strings tape samples which give it a truly authentic sound. You can also select “Dirty” and “Cleaned” versions of the original tapes. Other sound-shaping parameters include Formant, Age and Sample Start. There are 30 factory presets to get you going and a selection of built-in effects, including the new AIR Flavour (instant lo-fi goodness). AIR Solina For me, while MPC Sequences have great potential for live sets, they still don't provide a fluid scene system for combining song ideas and building arrangements. This is where it would be great to see some of the Force's ideas bleed over into the MPCs. On the hardware side, Live II would have hit perfection if it had had a mic/instrument input as well as line ins. As it is, you'll need a separate preamp or mixer if you want to plug in a microphone. Conclusion

The Akai Professional MPC Live II is the second iteration of the hugely popular and powerful music production centre with fantastic new features and upgrades. Ready When Inspiration Strikes The Akai MPC Live II features the same multi-core processor found in the MPC X and includes all the features you'd want from a modern MPC.

Do I really need this?

The MPC Live II will serve the majority of your needs if you’re in the market for a new Akai box, even if its stablemates have more specific functions. On the software side, the MPC Live II and MPC One use the MPC software, which ties in with the desktop MPC DAW/plug-in mentioned earlier. They’re also more about drum pads, Live especially, than the Ableton Push-style playable pads on the Force, which are more general-purpose and useable for beats, keyboard parts, and clip and scene launching. The MPC Live II is also the first MPC unit to feature built-in stereo monitors. Combined with a built-in battery and wi-fi/bluetooth connectivity, it's the perfect mobile production workhorse. Home, studio or on the move, the MPC Live II has got you covered. MIDI & Hardware Integration Yes! The MPC X and MPC Live will both ship with USB 3.0 cables and work at USB 3.0 speeds when connected to the computer as a controller. While USB 2.0 may work, we do recommend using 3.0 cables and ports whenever possible for the best results. If the MPC is in standalone mode, any connected thumb drives or storage devices will operate at USB 2.0. Can I add additional storage space? The Live II can be the centrepiece of any music production studio or hardware rig as well as a fully-equipped production station that enables you to create music wherever you take it, with up to five hours of on-the-go use thanks to its onboard rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery. It’s also handy if you’re using it a gig and someone accidentally unplugs the power cable! Whenever inspiration strikes, the Live II can be there to realise your ideas. If you don't want to work in front of a computer with mouse/keyboard, this is what you need. Not everyone has a powerful / decent modern computer to use DAWs. This can serve as a decent standalone machine to replace a DAWs. And you can always export the project into Ableton live if you need more refinement.

New Chord Progressions: MPC now contains five extra chord progressions that can be used in Pad Perform > Progressions mode. The MPC Live features a 7" full color, multi-touch display (Resolution: 1280x800 Aspect ratio: 16:10) for navigating and controlling the internal software. This means that not only is it touch capable, but it can handle multi-touch gestures like pinching to zoom in/out and double-tap for advanced settings. Last and certainly not least is WayOutWare’s Odyssey. WayOutWare Odyssey is a spot-on reproduction of the classic analogue synth. Thanks to state-of-the-art circuit modelling of the OG’s fat oscillators and filter, all the character, warmth and nuance of the original has been faithfully captured. In addition to the original’s mono & duophonic modes, WayOutWare Odyssey can be played with up to 4 voice polyphony. Perfect for when you want to play chords and pads. If you’re an MPC 2.10 desktop software user, you now have access to MIDI maps for popular Korg, Arturia, M-Audio, Ableton and Native Instruments controllers. This tighter integration gives you tactile and immediate control over the MPC desktop software. MIDI & CV Upgrades The MPC Live II retains those lush full-size pads, with velocity and aftertouch response. They’re great for beats and for playing instruments. They also include RGB LEDs that show clip colours as required Selection boxOf course! MPC 2.0 will support VST2 plugins, as well as AU plugins for Mac, just like the previous MPC software versions. Can I open my current MPC projects in MPC 2.0?

Absolutely! The MPC Live will be fully compatible with projects, programs and sequences from previous MPC versions and legacy hardware MPC's such as the MPC5000, MPC4000, MPC3000, MPC2500/2500XL, MPC1000, and MPC500. The MPC Live will support the following file types .AKP, . ALL, .IPT, .PGM, .PRJ, . SND, .MID, .SEQ, . APS, .50k, and .50s. Versatility is crucial for all producers. Being able to easily pivot from creator to performer means more people have the opportunity to see and hear your music. The new MPC Live makes the process of performing your studio inventions on stage incredibly seamless by combining the power of a production centerpiece with the portability and rugged design of an on stage workhorse. Ableton Live IntegrationMPC Live II Retro comes pre-mapped to Ableton Live for an instant performance and production setup. Take complete command over Live's clip launching, mixer and instrument macro controls wirelessly via Wi-Fi network Ableton Link or by ethernet connection using a USB to ethernet adapter.
