About this deal

The Celestron AstroMaster 130EQ is a 130mm Newtonian Reflector Telescope with a f/5 focal length and light gathering power of 345x, making it probably the best model in the AstroMaster series for both planetary and deep sky observing. Unlike traditional telescopes, the RASA design ingeniously places the imaging sensor at the front of the telescope tube, creating an ultra-fast f/2. The Celestron AstroMaster 130 EQ Reflector features all-glass optical elements, smooth operating steel tripod mountings with manual motion controls, and coated optics for enhanced image brightness and clarity. Additionally, it is equipped with adjusting screws for the primary mirror located at the tube’s end, essential for the telescope’s collimation. That doesn’t necessarily mean this telescope is ideal for you; there are a few things to consider before you make a purchase.

Manual Equatorial Mount: The telescope features a manual equatorial mount designed for smooth operation. One of the most important factors in a telescope is its transmission—the percentage of light that reaches the focal plane. By using the finderscope to first locate and center an object, users can then enjoy detailed views through the main eyepiece. Crayford style, and while it’s almost entirely made of plastic, it provides smooth and easy operation. This package includes a solid German equatorial mount that’s well built and provides simple controls that even a complete beginner will be able to pick up quickly.

Even aligning it is not that straightforward and in use, requires that you align your eye to the finder first and then to use the red dot to adjust the scope to where it needs to be. Download Celestron’s Starry Night Software and learn about the night sky, celestial objects, and how to plan your next observing session. What can you see with the Celestron Astromaster 130EQ astronomy telescope, expect bright detailed images of our moon, see the moons of Jupiter plus the rings of Saturn and much more. Celestron’s patented StarSense® Technology makes it easier than ever to locate objects in the night sky, even if you’ve never used a telescope before.

ED stands for "extra-low dispersion," which refers to the composition and optical properties of the glass used for the lenses. It’s important to note that after a night of stargazing, users should remember to switch off the laser to conserve battery life. Following the six-month deferral period, Novuna Personal Finance will initiate a monthly direct debit payment for the remaining duration of the loan. These mirrors cannot focus light correctly (a proper Newtonian telescope uses a parabolic mirror), and they make the telescope nearly unusable at high magnifications. The AstroMaster line of scopes is among their most popular, and it provides budget-minded astronomers with a crisp view of the night sky.

Conversely, parabolic mirrors, which are free from spherical aberration, are considered superior in terms of image quality. With an aperture of 130mm and a focal length of 650mm, the AstroMaster 130 EQ has a focal ratio of F/5.

While the concept might seem complex, it can be simplified as follows: a telescope with a faster focal ratio, like F/5, captures brighter images compared to a slower one, say F/10. As a reflector telescope, it requires occasional collimation (alignment of the internal mirrors) to ensure optimal viewing clarity. This easy-to-install RA motor drive compensates for the Earth’s rotation, so the telescope tracks a star’s movement through the night sky from east to west.

Rounding out what’s in the package is a copy of the Starry Night Level One software, which offers an impressive database of over 10,000 objects.
