Pelvic floor muscles help to support the vulvar structures. The voluntary, pubococcygeus muscle, part of the levator ani muscle partially constricts the vaginal opening. You can only see the tip of the clitoris which is about the size of a pea, and may be covered by a 'hood'. It has many sensitive nerve endings. It also has a shaft which extends into the body (see image above). When you feel sexually excited, the clitoris fills with blood and swells.
