Question: So, what are your initial impressions of the opening quarter of the book? A lot has changed… what do you like and what do you dislike?

Books by Scott Lynch

Anyway, there’s not too much to talk to you guys about until we’ve gone through the chapters, is there? So, I’ll get right to it! Remember that at the bottom of the Read-Along there are five questions for you to answer… ENJOY! 🙂

Worst of all, the inner vault is guarded by a live dragon, attended by fifty naked women armed with poisoned spears, each of them sworn to die in Requin's service. All redheads."

I'd recommend this to all fantasy lovers 15+. I also think this series would be a great introduction for someone wanting to read adult fantasy. The buildup took too long to get to in this book and the details were a bit tedious, so that’s why I have to give this 4 stars instead of 5. But overall, a fantastic sequel! We get to explore a cool new piece of the world. There are characters that I know and love, being very true to themselves while still growing and changing and coming into conflict with each other and the world. There is wonderful craft here. And brilliant dialogue, as before. Wit and humor both.an outstanding fantasy novel and a breathtakingly impressive debut. The action never flags, and the sensory and scenic detail is extraordinary." This is a sequel and I think I like it better than the first. That is saying a lot because the first was great! In this case, I will say something I don't usually say - I think you could read this one without reading the first and be just fine. While they do bring up some events from the first book, the author does a great job making this book it's own.

The Mage and the Master Spy

The ending. Well it was unexpected that things played out like they did. I will give Scott Lynch that but idk it made most of the story seem a bit pointless to me. But someone in Tal Verrar has uncovered the duo’s secret. Someone from their past who has every intention of making the impudent criminals pay for their sins. Now it will take every ounce of cunning to save their mercenary souls. And even that may not be enough.…
