davros Thursday, 12 August 2010 11:13

gavin Friday, 13 August 2010 04:30
i have, and i'm taking them away for the weekend

Rory Saturday, 21 August 2010 10:04
You chaps up for a Brighouse trip mid Sept if Dan's ok with having us up?

davros Saturday, 21 August 2010 13:44
I'm more up for that than being alone on a boat with the Saturdays armed with a harpoon gun and a roll of gaffer tape.

gavin Saturday, 21 August 2010 19:27
if it ever stops raining

gavin Monday, 23 August 2010 19:36
it's rained enough to work on the back line and get that done soon, except it's going to keep on raining over the next few days.

jason Tuesday, 24 August 2010 16:25
to be honest with you rory from what ive heard him saying about you lately im pretty sure your not at all welcome wink just kidding. are all of you chaps coming to dagger jam on the 4th ? i know young shalto-douglas is unfortunately.

gavin Wednesday, 25 August 2010 08:43
i could be available then, if it's a saturday, if it's not then i'm not.

jason Wednesday, 25 August 2010 15:05
it is a saturday, next saturday in fact so 10 days time to be precise, be there smile whats wrong with your leg gav ?

Rory Wednesday, 25 August 2010 21:27
Gav - that sounds dangerously like you're employed six days a week?

Jason - I'll have less of your cheek! Any news on what's actually happening with Cothill?

gavin Thursday, 26 August 2010 07:50
i had an interview yesterday, so might have a job in september, but i do have similar things to do between now and then.
Jason, my leg has been giving me trouble, possibly from completely missing a landing in the jam line.

Has anyone spoken to Aiden about cothill? Davros?

gavin Thursday, 26 August 2010 10:43
just been down the trails. there is some quite major rape from the rain, all smoothness has gone and there are wholes everywhere. Fun times ahead for the weekend, when it should finally have stopped raining. Maybe

davros Thursday, 26 August 2010 15:10
Sadly last time I spoke to Aiden it seemed pretty much like Cothill is going to be ploughed. Sad day indeed.

davros Thursday, 26 August 2010 15:12
Gav - You up for going to dagger jam sat 4th. Let me know . Will be down sat and sunday for some major diggarge.

gavin Thursday, 26 August 2010 18:46
should be yeah, and i might have a choice of cars to drive by then.
Give me a ring on saturday, as i will need some motivation to get up as geoff is coming down friday night, so i won't be able to avoid drinking cos he owes me money

WF Friday, 27 August 2010 09:54

i've looked at 3 weather forecasts and they all say, a bit of rain for wednesday. thank fook for that. Maybe some more for the friday, if only it would rain from wednesday through till friday.

gavin Thursday, 5 August 2010 13:37
it did rain yesterday, which was good and it is going to rain again tomorrow. We have loads of water and the whole place will get a decent watering by the end of tomorrow.

Rory - Marin Dave finished of your lip today. He jumped it a few times, to flat. The take of is quite steep, but he reckons the jump needs to be about 3 foot longer.
Just think, only 25 or so days till you can try it for yourself

davros Thursday, 5 August 2010 16:45
will be popping down for a good ol'dig fri.

gavin Saturday, 7 August 2010 14:17
session on sunday anyone?
it's rained so the place is no longer a dust bowl

Rory Sunday, 8 August 2010 11:21
Still jumping to flat? Did he put the extra lip on the skimmer to make it a bit of a step down to lose some speed? By putting lip on 16' skimmer you won't have to pump it so hard out of the 9' hence you won't pick up so much speed for the last, in theory

gavin Sunday, 8 August 2010 16:16
he did put a bit on it yes. made no difference, so is going to put some more on it next week.
glen and davros rode it today, and dave rode it some more, it seems you just have to pull up and transfer right a bit to make it ok.
also, 2 bar spins at the trails today

davros Sunday, 8 August 2010 19:36
that last jump seems alight now. woeks a lot better and just relax on it.

Rory Tuesday, 10 August 2010 10:32
Thanks. I'll be back on 1st Sept for a pop

anyone who goes down the trails should keep an eye for junkies and their paraphernalia left in or around the shack.

rory and me had to clear some dodgy shit out of the shack today and i found two needles on the roll in. one in a plastic tube and one not, just on the ground.

on the plus side, i had a really good curvy line session after wards.

Davros Monday, 26 July 2010 07:43
Cheers. They better #@*%! off before I find them.

I just had some lovely strawberry jam in a roll.

Possibley, around usual time of year. If we do there will be a flyer of some sort.

gavin Wednesday, 14 July 2010 16:24
we'd need to finish the trails first.

digging from 2 ish tomorrow afternoon. which is hopefully thursday?

davros Thursday, 15 July 2010 19:41
Never happen.

davros Thursday, 15 July 2010 19:44
Jam line finally finished.

I think we could start on the extended/ new curvey line. Having wet dreams about a step up out of the burms into nother tight burm into stepdown 90 hip into the old landing quarter.

Anyone around on Wednesday for a session?

gavin Monday, 28 June 2010 14:19
and does anyone know where the grey spades may be?

also, serious question, has Davros turned into a deer? he hasn't been answering his phone or been seen for a while, but i have seen this little 'strawberry blond' deer twice in the last few days. and it was eating grass and moss like some kind of vegan.

Rory Tuesday, 29 June 2010 10:26
I'm around for a 15-hour work session behind my desk. Next Wednesday shall be a different story!

You need to call Davros on his other mobile number. There is a Turkish construction contractor here in Turkmenistan with a wooden leg and eleven mobile phone numbers. I sh1t you not. Davros is slowly turning into that bloke.

If anyone's up for an old school reunion jam on Sat 17th July then I'll organise. Camping / BBQ / Land Rover rolling at Hursley afterwards

gavin Wednesday, 30 June 2010 12:11
sounds like a plan to me, but you might have to spread the word some other way, as it only seems like 5 people look on here any more.

no davros today, but phone or sight, but the deer was back. coincidence?

Hi there everyone, im looking for a bit of help with the situation at our our trails (down in in devon), and am trying to gather information as to how other trails spots in the UK manage similar (anoying )insurance/liability problems.

-We have had the spot running for nearly 10 years and in that time all has been well. However, we now have problems with insurance/ liability.

-The land is common land and owned by the loacl parish (not devon county council or privite land). Thus, the parish council feel that they would carry any lability from a potential law suit etc!

- What im am looking into is how the UK's prominent trails, such as Barend, Decoy, Wisley etc get by. If somone here was able to provide a little information on Barend, in terms of insurance, locking trails, waivers, council negotiations and liabiltiy etc that would be fantastic.

- I hope everyone agrees that the more trails spots that the UK can maintain the better the scene becomes and the more we all progress.

*Note any information I gather wont refer to individual trials by name or loaction, so dont worry about that issue. I am just looking for examples i can presnt to the parish council of means of running our trails..I too am a trial digger and would hate to ruin somones good thing.

Thanks a lot for anything anyone can offer.
Peter .

Rory Saturday, 19 June 2010 21:34
Peter, sorry to hear about that. We are not quite in that situation YET. Best person to speak to is probably Digs or Gareth from Wisley as I know they went through the same thing about 3-4 years ago. Let us know how it turns out, which company you use and how much you paid. Or go nuts and start your own insurance company, pray that no-one claims and drink Woo Woos in the Maldives for ever after

davros Sunday, 20 June 2010 07:55
Although we have never had the threat of being shut down the local authorities are very aware of the trails. However they seem to tolerate the place and let us get on with it.

I think you have to look at it from the perspective of the Parish, they probably don't know much about the whole trails culture so it is a good idea to build up a case for the positive aspects and also dispel any myths. There are many places that seem to get by officially and some of these places have public liability insurance, and some places don't. The whole issue of insurance comes down to the fact that some one walking through the woods could potentially get injured by a bmxer and then sue. Not for people riding and injuring themselves.

I know of a couple of places that have arranged insurance and have then run the trails as a club. The parish could then designate the land for the purpose of building jumps and riding bikes and put up warning signs. Then you are pretty much covered.

I think the fact that it is common ground and that it has been used for riding for ten years gives you a strong case.

Let me know how you get on and if we can be of any help, or if you need contact details for any one. If you're down in Devon then I think getting hold of Kye and the Decoy locals would be a big help as that is an official spot.

Gav - stick some photos up of you riding the curvy line as far as the big birm - we need prrof that it's humanly possible

gavin Sunday, 13 June 2010 06:58
Do you want a photo of me riding it properly or do you want a MBUK style, pedal round it backwards type one?

Rory Sunday, 13 June 2010 10:14
Both please - and some of Jason and Davros in case they have manned up to possibly the most ball tickling line I have ever seen

gavin Monday, 14 June 2010 16:08
will try and get that done this week. spent 4 hours today trying to make the roller thing the right shape. i don't know if it will ever work both ways properly

Rory Tuesday, 15 June 2010 10:27
How is Your Mum coming on? It's worth a double sailor jerrys and coke if I don't have to dig in the sun again when I get home

gavin Wednesday, 16 June 2010 16:15
so if i rig up some tarp to block the sun i can get a drink for doing it?

i went round the berm a few times today. there's some more tweaking to be done, but it was sweet. 1 foot from the top on the green mossy bit. exciting stuff for sure.

Rory Thursday, 17 June 2010 21:31
I think it's quicker to finish Your Mum than to rig up tarp with long sticks, given how high budget we are. Is Jason still about?

Did you make it as far as riding the left berm before the quarters?

See you in 18 days

gavin Tuesday, 22 June 2010 15:52
Jason is still about, but i manged to miss his trip down the river due to being a hippy #@*%! for the solstice.

I have been round the last berm, but without changing the roller into. i have done that now, but it needs packing in and i need to recover from the weekend before i got round the bend again.

Rory Thursday, 24 June 2010 10:47
Solllllstice duuuuuude! Did you bring your poi to swing about and your chai latte machine?

The food has gotten really bad in Turkmenistan. I think I am the only person who can say that they've shat themselves twice in the space of one day. Just brown water gushing out as I run to the bog

Tell us about your crash then, Gav. Must have been just after I left?

gavin Thursday, 15 April 2010 10:05
It was a while after, i think.
Had a bad line up the lip for the one after needle right. Got a bit stiff and sideways whilst going left instead of right. Would have been ok, but the bike dropped away from me. Landed on my feet and rolled a bit, but rolled through the crap swept up to the side of the bank on the left. Didn't shut my eyes in time.
Dave's mum to the rescue though in the eye hospital. 3 scratches to my retina and bruising to the back of my eye ball. Still a bit stiff now, but my eye sight is back to normal now.

Hey up chuck. Me n Dave got the first fire going at digmore a couple days ago. It's nice sitting by it drinking beer again. Our place is shaping up a treat. See ya soon.

sweet.
Fire Beer Mild-unruliness.

gavin Tuesday, 9 March 2010 05:43
Having a nice fire makes leaving the shack to actually dig so much harder.

I am going to actually ride digmore this year. it can't rain every time i go to bristol again.

possibly the best thing that has happened recently though, was that today Davros and myself lit the first fire of the year. the shack only has one finished wall, but the fire place works a treat.

james Saturday, 6 March 2010 17:43
you ladyboys going to be there tomorrow - might come watch you dig

Rory Sunday, 7 March 2010 02:46
I'd say the back and front walls were pretty much finished

Weather looks fine, good job on the lips! See you on the 16th

gavin Sunday, 7 March 2010 05:12
back wall is pretty much done, with some added camouflage. Lots more side walls needed.

I'm heading down for 12 30 ish, Davros, probably the same. Not sure what Jason is doing and Tim is going to sheet.

anyone for digging in the sunshine on saturday?

started shaping some lips and landings now. still more than enough left to do though

Rory Saturday, 6 March 2010 02:54
Davros and I want to know whether you have any good van insurance stories of late

gavin Saturday, 6 March 2010 04:45
um, well i have a van and i am insured on it. till the 10th at least. i don't think that counts as a good story though.

Rory Sunday, 7 March 2010 02:42
It's certainly not top 5

gavin Monday, 8 March 2010 11:49
well, theres the one about how i got offered 400 quid for my van when it was on ebay, and i said no. then it sold for 380, which was a bit shit, but then all 3 people ebay related and otherwise fu cked me around. leading to the van still being here and no one seemingly wanting it.
