About this deal

This Welsh village is located in a wonderful spot on the Gower Peninsula. There's excellent trails to follow through the surrounding dune system with hill climbs and great sea views to enjoy as well. View Full Details>> If Tor Bay hadn’t been in such exalted company, with Three Cliffs Bay on one side and Oxwich beach the other, it would be considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Wales. Agriculture remains important to the area with tourism playing an ever-increasing role in the local economy. The peninsula has a Championship status golf course at Fairwood Park just off Fairwood Common, which twice hosted the Welsh PGA Championships in the 1990s. Meanwhile, the Gower Golf Club at Three Crosses hosts the West Wales Open, a two-day tournament on Wales' professional golf tour, the Dragon Tour. Gower is part of the Swansea travel to work area. [11] Landmarks [ edit ] The western part of the AONB is included in the Register of Landscapes of Outstanding Historic Interest in Wales, for the rich evidence of a long sequence of land use and occupation from the prehistoric to industrial periods. This includes Iron Age forts and a surviving medieval open field system (known as the Vile, near Rhossili). Getting there: If you want to get to Three Cliffs Bay, you’re going to have to walk a mile (1.6 km) or more to reach it. The shortest route is from Penmaen to the west, though parking here is fairly limited.

This circular walk takes you around the Mumbles headland on the western edge of Swansea Bay, just south of Swansea. It starts by the bus station and information centre near Oystermouth Castle. It's well worth exploring the ruins of the 12 century Norman Castle before starting the coastal walk. There are lovely views over the bay from the castle grounds.

Outstanding Natural Beauty

There are several of Gower’s beaches that have a dog ban imposed from May 1st to September 30th each year. The beaches affected are as follows:

Gower ( Welsh: Gŵyr) or the Gower Peninsula ( Penrhyn Gŵyr) is in South West Wales and is the most westerly part of the historic county of Glamorgan, Wales. It projects towards the Bristol Channel. In 1956, the majority of Gower became the first area in the United Kingdom to be designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The reservoirs are in a delightfully quiet spot with lovely views of the surrounding hills and countryside. Look out for wildlife including Canadian geese on the water. We start in the east, at Swansea, continuing west to sublime Rhossili and north along the peninsula’s wild west coast. The Gower Peninsula, also known as Penrhyn Gŵyr, showcases breathtaking natural beauty and remains untouched by modern development. Spanning just sixteen miles by seven miles wide, this small region boasts numerous historical landmarks. It holds the distinction of being one of the earliest locations designated as 'An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' under the 1949 Act. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.00 square mile (2.59km 2), all land. [6] Demographics [ edit ] Historical population CensusIt’s the mecca of Gower surfing, and conditions are better there than at Rhossili because this section of the beach is more exposed to prevailing south-westerlies, which help generate bigger waves. There are more parking spaces at Parkmill, a village a mile to the north of Three Cliffs. The path gradually climbs to the ruin of Pennard Castle, before descending to the beach.

Facilities: It’s a Blue Flag beach, with easy access. There’s a kiosk at one end of the beach and an Italian restaurant overlooking the other. 7. Limeslade Bay Little Limeslade Bay in the Swansea suburbsThere are six castles on the Gower Peninsula: Landimore Castle—also known as Bovehill Castle— Oystermouth Castle, Oxwich Castle, Pennard Castle, Penrice Castle, Weobley Castle and numerous cairns and standing stones.
