About this deal

I couldn't sleep because when I closed my eyes all I could see was his body (I had to go to the mortuary with my father to formally identify his body. The Vonnadorians are horrified by this breakthrough as they see humans as a primitive, violent race not ready for the advancements the solving of the hypothesis will bring. There are some hilarious but also very wise philosophical statements and scenes in this book, which I will share later this weekend.

I found the that the humour and wit of this book came down to the same inane memes that your aunt will share on Facebook: I hate Mondays humour, only my dog understands me humour, kids these days humour. From the alien’s naked (but unembarrassed) entry to our planet right through to the end, where he understands us better than we understand ourselves, this warm-hearted novel never misses a beat. Meanwhile, he is having a deeply positive effect on his fake family, who have been in pain for years. One day, if you get into a position of power, tell people this: just because you can, it doesn’t mean you should. Love is truth") above the level of the " Desiderata" poster or the sort of wry and twinkly conclusions about what it means to be human that Spock was often subjected to at the end of a Star Trek episode.

At first he is determined to eliminate anyone who had been told about the fateful mathematical advancement that is at the heart of his deadly mission. The alien in turn, at first baffled and disgusted by humans, grows increasingly attached to his Earth family. of me is upset about this because it was so wonderfully brilliant and I need another right now, but the other 10% is happy because this is the only book that has brought me this much feeling to my life, and I can’t review Haig every week, can I? The Humans is about mathematics, aliens, and shape shifters, but at its heart it's about a hurting family and an unimaginable, shocking, heartwarming chance at a new beginning.I don’t know Haig personally, but there are some phrases in here which sounds like what he needed to hear during his past, embedded into the text so plainly and discretely, it makes this book a true, heart-warming piece of art: “Because happiness is possible for me now. You cannot meet an alien culture that you cannot love - if you don't, the fault must be more in you than in the culture. This alien didn’t know anything about human culture or social mores, so once he came upon earth, he went to a Texaco Station and picked up a Cosmopolitan magazine to read for guidance. Instead of finding himself in Martin's office, our nameless Vonnadorian has arrived in the middle of the M11, with no understanding of human culture and wearing his victim's body but not a stitch of clothing. I would have liked an entire book of this: just a doofy alien in human form walking around the modern world trying—and failing—to make sense of it.
