Right, let's begin by saying that this book is NOT marketed as a retelling, however, is noted as being inspired by the myth of Apollo and Daphne. Tropes within this book are dark romance, forced proximity, age gap romance, workplace romance, enemies to lovers, enemies with benefits, cat and mouse game, alpha male, breeding kink, possessive male character, etc. Apollo and Daphne isn't a myth I'm well-read about, but I still really enjoyed the little easter eggs of the source material Sav constantly includes in these books. For years, I watched every person he came into contact with latch on to the goodness inside him and drain him of it, taking it for themselves when they inevitably moved on.

We met Alistair Wolfe in the previous book, Oaths and Omissions (his brother Jonas’s book) so I was so hyped to read his book and see what kind of trouble he gets into. I wish Sav would’ve worked on this more because truthfully I feel like this book was rushed and the pacing and poor developing of the plot shows it😐. I’m eleven, secretly learning to pick up on social cues and lip-reading because the hearing loss in my right ear is becoming noticeable. The only reasons I’m giving it 4/5 stars is because there were some confusing moments for me as a reader that just didn’t tie in together super smooth. Ugh she was such a strong fmc that literally frustrated and amazed me with how hard headed she could be sometimes.It’s the fourth book in the Monsters and Muses series and it’s based on the story of Apollo and Daphne.

Now, despite her disdain for the dirty politician, she’s entwined their lives so tight that escaping seems unlikely. I could have loved it, given how much I loved Alastair and his beautiful, dirty mouth and how much he revered Cora. I really was not expecting much out of this book but I got a man obsessed, feral for his girl and soft for her.

Long long story short, I’m disappointed in the execution of this book considering her other previous books in the series ATE! the were find of dropped and used before it was really apparent to the reader that it was even a serious issue and possibly. Then at sixteen, I switch to a traditional bow and arrow when hunting with my father because the sound of the shotgun obscured my other senses too much, and I want to be able to focus on hearing while I perfect my shot. the way he was so caring and soft for cora🥹 i was indifferent towards his character in oaths and omissions and wow did i underestimate this man! If you’re familiar with Sav’s work then you know she always brings the spice, that she always brings top tier kink, and oh boy did she deliver on this one.

Cora get hit in the hid, gets unconscious and had blunt force trauma and the next chapter she doesn’t acknowledge being attack? Regardless, that was developed poorly because I literally didn’t feel a spark between Alistair and Cora at all, like even throughout the book. They don’t strip bare in an alley and spread their delicious thighs, and they certainly don’t ask the monster to fuck them. every time something happened to cora i swear it would be brushed off or forgotten, like nothing even happened. But if I tell him, I’ll endanger him far more than he is in general because the Delos officers weren’t investigating large-scale corruption. let me just start off by saying that allister and cora were exactly what i’ve wanted in a book couple, with the obsession and the way they were written. I always think that the plot of these books isn't the strongest part, but it was entertaining to keep me invested.
